Taking taillight assembly out

Hi everyone I'm trying to swap taillight assembly's from the 03 to the 01 se lights but I'm having a hard time getting them out I took off the 4 nuts in the back and tried pushing towards the back of the car but there not budging should I use a screwdriver and run it along the sealant around the lights ? Thanks everyone I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything.

If you took the correct nuts out, it should push outwards towards teh bumper no problems. May have to use a blow driyer around the outside to loosen the butyl but if you push firmly straight out it should come out no problems...did you undo the wires as well?

you can use screwdriver if you want, just be damned careful not to pry too hard or you'll end up with cracked tails and scratched car body.

Yeah, the sealer holds the taillights in almost like glue. I just press real hard on the screws with a screwdriver handle. Don't pound, just press. When you put the taillights back in, use some sort of sealer. The stuff may look OK but 9 time out of 10 it will leak. I use a windshield sealer myself.

Just be careful pushing the light out, you don't wanna break anything, make sure you use some sealant like DennisMik said too. Post if you still need help, the video posted above should really help you.

I have done this to few 5th gens and 5.5. The black stuff holds it in place. Pry gently and pull out. Do not break stuff.
