Speaker problem - Stereo question
Guys, have a 01 Max with a slight problem. The rear factory Bose speaker (sub) comes and goes in and out. Any ideas? Also would like to put in aftermarket Double Din stereo. Any know issues with removing factory Bose?

A little bit of searching goes a long way. There are also several problems with installing a double DIN head unit but none of there are insurmountable. Check out the Audio and Electronics forum, lots of information to be had. And the results speak for themselves.

for issues with removing the factory bose:
unless you are good with rewiring everything, DO NOT REMOVE THE DOOR SPEAKERS OR AMP. they run on a different impedance than aftermarket speakers, so there is more work involved than a simple speaker swap out.
The sound of the bose mid and high speakers is actually very good with an aftermarket deck, so there is no need to replace those either.
As well, if you install a new deck, you will lose the function of the steering wheel mounted controls. The only way i know to get around it is to buy a little unit that allows the controls to work with aftermarket radios. i dont know what its called, but shouldnt be hard to find with a search
