Clunk in front

Recently had right front wheel bearing/hub and lower control arm replaced...... Less than a year ago had struts replaced on the four corners, I'm still getting freaking clunking sounds on the right front. The repair shop said that my outer tie rod was fine as well as the ball joint...... I can hear every darn bump!!!! Please Help......

Add motor mount to that list.

^^^^------ +1. The passenger torque mount has been noted to attribute to some thunking and such. Can't recall what - if any - role the engine mounts play in that scenario.

i have a clunking over bumps in the rear passenger side as well in my 01 i30..figured it was loose exhaust piping (217k miles..figured anythings possible) more likely to be passenger torque mount? it sounds close to the far back of the car.

Blip the throttle on smooth ground. If you hear a clunk, then it's your motor mount(s).

strut bearings.... if not installed or seated properly those will develop a clunk... over time the clunk will be getting worse and worse... it will get to the point where you will be able to hear the bearing crack as you turn the wheel...

I also have to wonder how often clunking is indication of an installer failing to properly tighten the top nut on the cylinder?

I had a bad engine mount in my 2000. I was the one by the radiator. It would cause a clunk when I went over bumps. Inside the car, it sounded like the clunking was on the right side of the car. People in the passenger seat would say it was coming from the right side. I was expecting a loose exhaust system, not the motor mount.

Did you ever do your strut tower mounts? I was getting that clunking sound and it turns out it was my strut tower mounts. Just a suggestion

I've been threw this, passenger torque mount pretty easy fix, or stabilizer bar link, since your ball joint is good...

No, the strut tower mounts were not replaced. Is there a way to check to see if they're bad?

Passenger torque mount??? That's different from engine mount correct?

The front wheels will have to be raised partially off the ground but touching the ground. You'll have to turn the steering from left to right really quickly and you'll notice the springs will be turning to catch up with the shocks which shouldn't be happening. You'll know if it's "clunking" when the tension of the spring snaps back in the groove. Or just tell the mechanic to check to see if your upper strut tower mounts. It's probably time to change them

Yes, different. Engine mount are two under the engine supporting it. Torque mount is located on passenger side at front of engine. Tranny mount is, well....just that.

I was putting up with a nasty clunk for several years, replaced the original struts at 217,000 miles and that cured most of the noise. But there was still a clunk coming from the front passenger side, very noticeable when driving over speed bumps or on dirt roads with potholes. It turned out to be the inner tie rod, once I replaced it all the noises are gone. I found it by raising the front wheel off the ground and rocking it from side to side. There was a very noticeable amount of play in the wheel.

The only other noise I've come across was caused by the brake calipers moving from side to side due to warped rotors, but only when applying the brakes. I replaced the rotors, lubed the pins that the calipers slide on, and everything was good.

It might also be the outer tie rod end. You can also disconnect the sway bar where it connects to the lower control arm as a way of eliminating it as a possible noise source.
