Tein Coilovers DONT suck (Review)

I just got my Tein Street Advance Coilovers installed yesterday wit hthe EDFC (Electrinic Damping Force Controller). The stock springs are 7kg in the front and 6kg in the rear. Thanks to KNIGHT_XYZ I upgraded to 9kg in the front and 8kg in the rear. When I have the controller set to its hardest the thing rides like its on RAILS. Super fast responsive and no body lean at all. It doesn't bounce or float. Its firm and tight but not uncomfortable...actually on its hardest setting its ALOT more comfortable than my Eibach springs and Tokico blue strut setup. Now on full soft setting it sucks. Thing bounces around something like its on a cloud and I dont like it at all. I would think somewhere in the middle would be a compromise if someone who doesn't like the stiffer ride got in my car I could set it to the middle. But for me I will ride around with it on full hard or maybe a couple of clicks off full hard.

Of course my opinion of the Tein Street Advance coilovers might be different since I have TONS of suspension mods that include stillen rear sway bar, ES bushings in subframe, ES motor mounts on subframe, subframe collars, Red lion racing monuts on trans and pass side, FSTB, ES lower control arm bushings and Michelin Pilot Super Sports 255/40 18s. But I love the way the car handles now! And its not aligned yet....appointment Thursday for alignment.

I'll post pics of the ride height later when I get off work.

lol @ thread title

Nice glad you got them on dude! I rode mine on full stiff most of the time and it was still about as comfy as stock (SE). Love those coils.
I can imagine the upgrade spring rate would be way better. My RS*R's on the G are 8 & 9 and even they are a touch soft.

No wonder the rear of the Maxima liked to rub on swooping bumps. Bouncy.

Good luck when you need customer support and you need them replaced when they go prematurely . They have had my struts a week now and still no email back or call. My KYB's have a lifetime warranty. TEIN's a one year. I should rephrase. TEIN's customer service is horrible, just look at there website.

Yes Tein sucks at returning individual inquires. You need to go through the dealer.then you get very fast service

I love my street advance as well. I went with 8k in the back and 7k in the front. The 6k in the rear how they shipped it was a joke. Bottomed out like crazy. Now that I am dropped as low as they go I still get a rear bottom from time to time. I will be ordering 9k for the rear and moving the 8k up front (they are interchangeable). I have about 200+ pounds of audio equipment in the rear.

I love the ride over stock by farrrrrr. They only time I have a hard time is when I am in nyc but I am always on full stiff. I need to get the edfc. Car feels like its on rails. I am sort of new to motorcycles but I do take corners faster in the car compared to my 2012 R6.

ANyone see the new edfc that has a gps speed sensor as well as a gyro to be able to on the fly adjust dampening based on speed or accell and decell. Pretty sick. Seems like its in japan only so far as I seen it on the japan site.

Tein ftw handling and comfort.

OH dam...totally forgot. Hardly come here that much anymore.

OK...here is the deal. I wrote the review when I was NOT tuned so I did not go into boost at all with them and they were not pushed REAL hard.

Since I have gotten tuned I noticed that the Tein SAs dont handle the boost well at all. They are a bit too soft for serious aggressive driving and I have upgraded springs. The problem, and I didnt know this before, is that you cannot adjust ride height and spring pre-load independently. SO, if you want to lower the car you have to decompress the spring which makes the ride softer, if you want to ride harder then you have to raise the vehicle, but the ride is TOO hard then and you have about a 3-4" gap between the wheels.....thing looks like a monster truck. I had it lowered to where there was about 1-1.5" wheel gap and with the damping on FULL HARD under boost the car pulls left and right and GOD forbid you hit a little bump in the road it throws the car around. With my old Tokicos and Eibachs I could keep the car straight no problem, but with the Teins they just cant handle the aggressive driving. The shocks themselves are just too soft even under full hard. I did some reading and research and alot of people that are hardcore drivers have the same opinion of them; they are soft.

If you are a person that wants to have a nice comfort decent handling ride then Teins are for you...but not me. They DONT SUCK, they are just meant for more of a luxury ride if you ask me....

I'm going to sell my Teins and EDFC and springs when I get my new coilovers. I have some TDMI Coilovers on order (same dude that made the bump steer kit). They have much thicker pistons (57mm), can adjust pre-load and ride height independently and they have a radial bearing in them.

So in conclusion the Teins are good for luxury driving not aggressive driving.

My megan springs and kyb's are riding really well in the front. I might just leave them for awhile.

Week 3 of waiting for teins. Just another 3 weeks to get my one strut rebuild. The good news my passenger side isn't leaking. I want to replace the strut boots because they are way too small with kyb strut boots.
