02 Max, EGR Valve senor.... or not??

02 Max, EGR Valve senor.... or not??
Stalled a couple times (always when idling). SES light came on. Mechanic says EGR Valve Sensor. Someone else says that the sensor will not cause stalling. Which is correct???

I didn't think 02-03 had an EGR.
