Oh, lol, it is possible for a master cylinder to leak internally.

check your brake booster, theres a thin diaphragm plate in it. if it goes bad, it can allow brake fluid to collect in the booster

Ive heard the master cylinder leaks into the brake booster. Remove the brake master cylinder and check behind it if its soaked in brake fluid, probably all over the inside of the brake booster

the clutch uses brake fluid, but the systems are entirely independent of each other

question, if the fluid is leaking into the booster, do you have to replace both the master and the booster or just the booster?

I dont know, but I can speculate. Unless this is an unusual master/booster setup, the booster would not have any brake fluid in it and shouldnt be affected by an M/C leak. the booster is basically just a vacuum diaphragm that makes pushing the brake easier. If the fluid is leaking into the booster you need to replace the m/c but maybe not the booster

that would be nice since the booster is 3x the cost of the master. Ill be taking them off this weekend to look at em. thanks for the thoughts

IMHO, I'd replace both. There shouldn't be brake fluid inside the brake booster and I can't imagine it does nice things to the diaphragm. But I'm no expert...I replace extra parts sometimes just because I want to make sure I only have to do a job once.

i know on old school cars you can replace just the diaphragm, not sure about newer ones. but especially Nissan brake boosters and master cylinders are cheap as ballz. just replace both for safety sake
