5.5 gen coils on 5 gen?

Okay guys I need your help, will 5.5 gen rear coils fit on a 5 gen maxima? I searched but couldn't find a straight answer either way. Just by looking, the 5.5 gen are smaller but was wondering could I just change the tube on them to make them longer?

I don't have an answer from experience but I would say they are not interchangeable. However, I have never read of someone trying to change the tube part. In fact, this is my first time ever hearing this concept.

Btw, your post is only a few hours old. Give people a little more time than that!

Different Part number, and when 4th gens do a ooVI swap they say something always about the rear coils, and in the link I guess for 5th gens rears and fronts are different as to 5.5s all are the same...

thanks for the info guys, and sorry for the confusion. I was hoping that somebody had tried this because I have some 5.5 gen coils laying around but I just ordered OEM ones today for the rear.

I wouldn't think VQ30 coils are VQ35 compatible and vice-versa

Since i just changed out all the ignition coils in mine and the wife's car since they both had over 100k on factory coils i went out to the garage and took a quick look at the coils since i still kept them all.

The rear coil are completely different between the 3.0 engine and the 3.5. The 3.0 connector is on the top and the 3.5 is on the side along with the connector plug in being different. Also the coil tube on the 3.5 is 1.2 inches longer then the 3.0 coil.

All in all its a no go.

For anyone wondering you can get coil tubes (Boots) at autozone and rockauto. They come in sets of three for both banks and are cheaper then buying 3 new coilpacks from the same retailers. I got 3 5.5 gen coil packs for cheap and swapped them to my old 4th gen. Then they started misfiring so I got some coilboots from rockauto attached them to the 5.5's and bam happy car again !

If you have a 2000 make sure you get 2001 coils. The 2001 coils have a silver dot on them.
