Goodbye old friend

Long time member and don't post much. But was involved in a wreck this morning. Thankfully everyone was ok. My car didn't fare so well. Car in front of me was turning left and stopped in Hwy for oncoming traffic. I stopped behind it. Car behind me didn't stop and plowed into me pushing me into the car in front of me. So I got sandwiched.

I bought this car brand-new and it has taken me 223000+ miles. Just spent $800 on tires for it and was looking at the 300k mile mark. Wasn't meant to be. I'm sure the insurance company will total it. Too bad, it was in cherry shape. Shame to see her go.

Sorry for the loss man... This engine could have easily taken you to 300k miles with good maintenance...

A brand new AE, driven and cared for by the original owner for almost a quarter million miles? That's amazing, impressive and respectable. Sorry for your loss, OP.

Assuming you'll be buying another new, contemporary car... what are you considering?

did the bags open? might be possible to fix her and put her back on the road... It will probably never be the same but hey with the try... did the engine suffer some damage?
It is just sad to see a 20th AE go to the junkyard

It doesnt look to bad, unless there is some structure damage. How had was the impact? frame damage? airbags? might consider buying it back if its not to bad... Sorry for your loss man

Not sure what I'll replace it with yet. Have been searching carmax and autotrader. At this point I'm thinking maybe a used 2010ish Infiniti G35...maybe.?? The budget is tight. My wife and I were within a couple of months of buying a new mini-van so we'd like to get something to counter the anti-cool factor. However, a car for me wasn't in the plans. Just goes to show you life can sometimes throw you a curve ball and take your plans and throw them out the window.

The impacts were hard. Surprisingly, the bags didn't deploy. The engine was still running when I pulled off on the shoulder of the road. The radiator and condenser were badly damaged and and coolant was leaking everywhere. The hood latch was destroyed. The trunk wouldn't open with the key fob, but it would open with my key. The driver of the tow truck said insurance would total it. The owner of the shop said 100% totaled. But insurance adjuster will look at it Monday. I figure book value for it's shape is maybe $4000. The estimate to fix must be 75% of the value or else they'll consider it a loss.

Ouch sucks to hear man.

If they total it see how much they want to buy it back and maybe fix it with some junkyard body parts and use it as a fun toy.

But as for a replacement car a G35 sedan would be a very nice vehicle.

Yeah this sucks to see an AE go to the JY...glad everyone was untouched and it seems front impact did not hit bumper directly and hence avoided deploying air bags.

UPDATE: Insurance called this morning and offered me $6146 for the car. I took it. Thought it was a fair price for the mileage. Don't think I could have sold it for that money...but then again I wouldn't have been selling it.

Sorry about your car. That sucks man- been there, but at least everyone was OK.

Be very aware that you sure got your money's worth.., and $6k to find another.

Might I interest you in a new GNX!

Not sure yet. Gonna buy a 2013 Sienna mini-van first and I'll drive the wife's old car for awhile till we sell it and save money for my car.

Agreed. Yeah, I got a lot of good driving out of that car. I was still on the original clutch and figured it was a matter of time before I'd have to replace it. Something else like the AC could've gone out on it and I would've been stuck on sinking a lot of money in on something I wouldn't get back.

LOL, that's a nice looking GNX! Buick is really coming out with some great looking cars.
