RPM Gauge(Tachometer) not working after engine install
Hey i just got my car back from the mechanic noticed the tachometer is not moving. Car running great btw but im sure they missed it because it was kind of a rush finish, i needed my car back. ANYWAY i know i can take it up there Monday but if its just something they left unplugged what could it be...is that something I can reach? Btw there is a plug that is not plugged in...Its the maf wire...could that be it? I never noticed but there are 2 plugs on the maf wire one is plugged in, one is just hanging, arent they both supposed to be plugged in? i have a cold air intake btw. I just cant remember if i had it like that already. 2002 Maxima 6 speed

I'll try, have never needed to upload a pic before ill try to get that done. But it looks similar if not just like the maf plug. but there is already something plugged into the maf but, they are both coming from the same wiring...it just splits into 2 plugs and one is hanging.

If memory serves me, I seem to remember people mentioning that after an engine swap, if the correct crank position sensor is not used they had no tach...and/or if the upper oil pan was not swapped if new engine was from an auto and the car receiving the swap was a manual. You're an 02, and it's manual, so if the donor engine is not an 02-03 then you need to swap the upper oil pan/CPS from your old engine, though I remember at least one guy rigged something without swapping the UOP. Good luck

I'd check if they actually did swap the UOP, and if so whether they used the CPS from the donor engine or from yours. No idea in which of the many swap threads the no tach problem was mentioned, but a) I'm sure not changing the UOP would cause CPS issues and generate a code since I believe that places the CPS in an incorrect position on the UOP with an 04 or later motor that was mated to an auto and b) if they did change the UOP but used the donor engine's CPS, swapping in your old CPS is a 10 minute job, so I'd give it a try.

Turns out when he was diagnosing it. I had a Crank sensor code and hit had a hard start...crank crank crank then start.....basically it hit him that he aligned the flywheel wrong. on an automatic it has one slot....on a manual there is two. so he thinks its reading retard and thus the crank sensor is wrong and same with the rpm....the computer and flywheel not reading the same thing. He's gonna adjust it. He admitted he messed up.
