Retrofitting Cruise control
Retrofitting Cruise control
Hi all. This is my first post here after a long period of just following this great forum.
I own a 2005 Nissan Maxima QX, which is a european version of the 5th gen and also known as Nissan Cefiro.
My model does not have a cruise control system. I would like to try and add this feature. I've seen a lot of CC units and wheel switches running around ebay and I was wondering if I can retrofit an entire CC system.
My Max has a mechanical throttle so I guess it has to have some control module/motor to actuate it.
Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks,

I havent done it, but it seems that it should be able to be done. Parts off the top of my head would include:
- The interior buttons..if your steering wheel doenst have the screw holes, either drill them in the same spot as the US version with CC, or buy a CC enabled steering wheel.
- You'd also need the wiring harness to plug in to the CC button, maybe your current harness has the unused connector to plug in to it?
- Either the entire throttle body with the CC cable mount, or just the CC cable mount that you'd have to make sure can be fitted correcly to your TB.
- The CC cable
- Maybe an ECU from the same year US version with CC? Not sure on this but something has to tell the button on the steering wheel what to do.
Not too knowledgeable on this, but surely others on here can direct you. Good luck!

I have installed a non-manufacturer cruise control kit on another car, not a Maxima. It worked very well.
Any kit that you purchase should be complete with all the buttons, wires and all other necessary items. One item that Matts95max did not mention was something will sense the car's speed. Again, a kit should have that but you should read the list of items carefully.
Do other Maxima QX cars have cruise control? If yes, maybe you can find a wrecked car in a salvage yard and get all the pieces from it.

Thank you guys for the replies.
Dennis, can you specify which kit did you use?
CC is a very "dumb", closed loop, system so I guess anything would work. I just rather have the original system.
Maxima QX is very rare here in Israel and wrecked cars are scarce. I don't believe it has a CC system anyways since this model has only one trim level.

I was trying to find out if factory installed cruise control was available on your car. I did not have much success.
I found a 2000 Maxima QX service manual and it has a section on cruise control. It does not mention if it was standard equipment or optional equipment.
If cruise control was optional equipment, that would mean that you probably have the wires in your car. Even if that is true, I don't know how easy it would be for you to locate and get used parts shipped to you.
