00-01 Fog light Lexus Capsule retrofit

I'm sure this isn't anything new but defenetly was my first. A member here asked me to do fog light retrofit using Lexus Capsule (ES/GS).

There different ways of doing it, this is just my way and not necessarily the absolute way of doing it.

First and always, open the fogs lens and clean the rotten rubber sealer as much as you can. In my case I will be using Butyl tape with clear silicon for final sealed.

Trim the capsules as much as you can. Really you only need the yellow capsule, but you still need to figure out how to hold the lens to the reflector. I thought about fabricating special lens holder but in this case, the original capsule holder is all you need.
Stock vs trimmed

In my case, I left one tab that I will be using to secure the capsule lens holder to the fog reflector.

Next, trim the stock bulb shield. You want to use the upper portion of the light.

Clean everything with lint free towel, make sure no finger print and stuff. In my case, I didn't touch the stock fog reflector at all. No holes or any other trimming. I've used the Lexus Capsule bulb retainer and fitted in the Stock reflector. The Lexus bulb fit nicely inside the stock reflector with the pretty close arc chamber t the stock bulb which helps maintaining the focal point.
Top is stock bulb. You can use stock bulb too and keep everything OEM.
Below is Lexus capsule stock bulb

Without the bulb shield

With shield installed. No light leaks since the capsules holder fit snugly inside the bulb boss in the reflector. Make sure the glass capsule isn't touching any metal, bend the shield a little to provide this clearance.

Check for alignment. Should be identical to the stock ones, since the bulb location is the same and reflector is untouched.

Sealed the driver side. Was trying to clean the inside of the reflector with lint free towel and a little bit of coating peeled off (pict 3). Didn't effect the output though ( no dark spot visible on the wall shot).

very nice. The way that I did the lexus capsule mod on my fogs was to remove the capsule itself from the holder, and then use the OEM nissan fog glare shield to hold it in place. The way I did that was to open up the glare shield a bit(has a slit in the side of it that allows the side to be separated a bit, place the capsule inside, and then tighten it up a bit around the capsule(so the capsule won't move. Has held fine for over 3 years this way. I even had HID bulbs in there for about a year without a problem.

That works too,

I just didn't like the idea of metal and glass under compression when you tighten the screw. Over tightening it could easily crack the glass.

I left one tab for the capsule to be securely fastened to the bucket and the OEM glare shield bottom area is only holding the capsule in vertical direction with slight intereference fit to the OEM glare shield but not compression force to the bulb itself.

i totally understand what you mean. The way I did it, was to leave the side metal pieces "snug" around the capsule, with enough looseness for it to move horizontally if pressure is applied(which happened a bit when I installed an HID bulb that was a couple of mm too long). Those capsules are surprisingly sturdy.

the capsules put out a deeper yellow with halogen h3 bulbs than with yellow hid bulbs. Having said that, even with HID bulbs, it still has a pretty deep yellow.
