2001 se 85k miles,,,water pump leaking and will be replaced with dealer part no aftermarket parts,,and two new belts ,,,mechanic tells me that the motor must be lifted off the mounts to access the pump,,,the cost will be 450 dollars...is that a good price,,,

Sounds about right...looks like a lot of work...

I might try to talk 'em down a bit though. Pump is ~130, Belts are another ~45. Call it $200 for parts with their markup and 4-5 hours labor.

the water pump is not an easy thing to replace, but I didn't have to lift it off of the mounts, just up a bit to get enough space to take it out through the access ports on the timing cover. It was a bit of a pain in the ***(moving power steering reservoir, lines, out of the way, and pushing in the tensioner), so I say that is a fair price.

lol nmexmax - you raped whomever. It is generally a 500-600 job.

Simply bs about moving it up off the mounts. You will see that there is an indention in the frame which - when the wp is properly oriented - fits through. Now, someone who doesn't know maximas, might miss this and think it is necessary to lift the motor.

Nonetheless, it is a labor intensive job. I think I paid 600 on my 96 7 years ago when I got stranded.

Have done both my 96 and 00 since then.

But if you get the wp and belts for 450 thats a deal.

they probably want to lift it off the mounts to make it a bit easier to get to from the access ports, and to give themselves more clearance. I know in my case it cleared, but it was not a comfortable process(and I lifted the motor slightly on the passenger side with mounts attached).
