Warm engine dies when started or sometimes when engaging clutch while driving.
Hi!
I have a European version of Maxima, quite similar car, but I have a manual, which isn't an option in the USA, I think. So I thought I might get help here.
The problem is that my car tends to die when I start it with warm or semi-warm engine.(the weather doesn't seem to influence it, only the temperature of the engine) It starts up and then the revs just fall down and it dies, very often it doesn't die, put the revs fall very low and it sputters and almost dies. I can usually get the engine to stay working by applying a little throttle. The car starts perfectly well, when the engine is cold.
The same problems appears with semi-warm and warm engine while driving and putting down the clutch (not sure, but when also braking at the same time, it seems to be worse). The engine dies, or the revs fall below the normal and it kind of sputters, then it returns to normal. I break with the gear more, to avoid the problem and use the clutch at a later moment when braking, this seems to improve the situation, but it still sometimes sputters.
When the car is just in neutral, the revs seem to be stable and everything OK.
The mileage of the car is not that big, but for a longer period of time it was not driven at all, which might have affected something negatively(for the last 2 years it has been driven)
The car had a faulty oxygen sensor, at least, it gave the fault codes some times, but I didn't change it and haven't had the MIL for a longer period of time. (It was the back one, which just controls the status of the Cat, I think).
I've had this problem for a quite long time, but at one point it progressed worse. If anyone has an idea, where to check faults, it would be appreciated and might save me some money.
I can add some videos, how the car dies later.
Thank you very much!

Welcome to the .org
We actually do have maxima's with three pedals here!!!!! The 5.5 generation maxima was available with a six speed.
Could be a number of things.
It would help if you could post some specs on your car. Specifically year, model, engine etc.

Thanks! Year 2000. Maxima A33 (Corresponds to your 5th generation)So not the A32, which was also still produced at year 2000, i believe. They also call it Nissan Maxima QX here. Petrol 2.0 litre V6 103 kw (VQ20DE), manual 5-speed gearbox. Mileage: Around 50k miles.(not km). That's all the relevant info I can think of, if any additional info is needed, I can gladly look it up.

Maximas have been available with a manual transmission in the USA from 1989 to around 2007 (can't remember the exact year they quit making the manual transmission it was 07 or 08 or something like that, and it might have been available in the 2nd gen prior to 1989, but i have no knowledge of maximas before 1989.)
Anyways, your issue sounds similar to how mine behaved with a bad engine coolant temperature sensor. You might look in to that.

Hello Friend,
Yeah there are some very exciting maximas here with 5spd and 6spd gearbox.
I have a 2003 6spd with 3.5ltr V6 (VQ35DE).
I have the same problem. The car starts everytime with no problem even after the engine stalls. I can even clutch start it in 3rd when I'm on the road and it stalls. However, it does not happen if I am driving in 3rd or 4th gear around 30-40 mph. It always happens after the car is warmed up and when I press the clutch for long in 5th or 6th gear.
I posted this issue long time ago over here and I got responses like
1. bad maf
2. crank/cam sensor
and I do not remember what else.
