Advance timing with android phone?

Might be to good to be true, but look what came with the latest Car Gauge Pro update. I'll test it out tomorrow.
Who am I kidding, almost 4am and I just went out to the car to try this. No dice on my V Gate. Checked the info for the update and it says Nissan 2001-2007 with kwp2000 support. Just ordered a bluetooth dongle that has kwp2000 support for $25 on ebay. Stay tuned for details after it arrives!
Side note... Idle air and self learn were performed successfully with the vgate.

I am trying www.nissandatascan.com software. I have a OBD2 cable showing up today, so I will know tonight if it works. The free version of the software will allow monitoring and what not, but if that works it means the full version will work. It will allow timing advance, etc.

Blazt and Data Scan II = 135 shipped from concept z. A basic obd2 cable won't work. Guess how I know... This app is $6 and the required bluetooth dongle is $30. If this works (which I still feel is a long shot).

I've had an ELM327 Mini (sits almost flush and out of the way of your legs when driving) for over a year now. It says it supports KWP2000. Going to try this out tomorrow.

Gentlemen, advance your timing. In my sleep deprived state, I forgot the engine had to be warmed up. Worked with what I had.
And just incase... Here's a snapshot from Torque Pro
Idle RPM Adjustment also works like a charm. Increased up to 1500ish and back to normal just for the fun of it.

When connecting select Nissan, ECM... defaults to port 10 I believe. In OBD menu select self test, you'll see it there. It didn't work right away for me. I played around with just looking at the single pid live data in which I viewed the ignition timing pid. Went back to try one more time and it worked. I captured the screenshots as I did it. I thought it just had to warm up. I swear it does work, my photo shop skills are nonexistent. I captured the screenshots as I did it. It wasn't on my first try, that's for damn sure.

Awesome, glad it worked for you. Hope it helps other that don't have a decent stealership to go to for this.

I've done a little searching but haven't been able to find what discernible gains are to be had by a 2 degree advance. I'm guessing a bump in the low end? I'm sure someone has run the dyno numbers. Is there a link somewhere?

From 17 to 18? Had the same happen to me. But then again view the pid and watch what happens when you step on the gas. Think that may be normal. Mine was defaulted on - 1, thinking now I should have only advanced to 1 instead of 2... but I think it's fine. Could be placebo, but I'm digging the faster throttle response.
hp gains? Not sure. If anything very minimal. Supposed to perform better gas mileage wise and what I just stated about throttle response. Not as laggy as it was.

Ever since I did NWP spacers my idle has been up around 900 RPMs and my timing would sit at 5 degrees. I used this just now and bumped it up 2 degrees and now my timing sits at 7 degrees and idle bumped up to 1000 RPMs. The app wont let me use the RPM adjustment feature, it says data not supported......GRRRRR

Same here, I reconnected a couple times when it did that. Not the most user friendly app, and it has its bugs, but it does work.
Edit: I'm sure you are, but you are trying it with the car running right?

Ok I'll try again in the morning.... So if I set the idle back down to 650 with the timing uo 2 degrees it should read 17 degrees for ignition timing at idle when warmed up.?
Yes i was. The only thing that would work with the engine off was the idle air relearn.

This app is a handy tool I'll tell ya.... Works for abs diagnostic as well.

Alright, tried to go back in this morning. It still read with the advance, but i couldn't adjust it or idle rpm. Just drove to work and tried once it was well warmed up and I could adjust both with no problem. I remember the engine temp has to be within a certain range even if being advanced with a Consult II, can someone verify that? Might help out those that are trying this out.
@CauzinDrama I could never get my idle air relearn to stick. I read a thread that said to pull the negative terminal right after you perform it. So I pulled the battery (both terminals, better safe than sorry) and even turned on my headlights and hazards to get all the remaining juice out. Left it over night and haven't had an issue yet. Whether pedal dancing or using this app, give that a shot.
