I had the same issue with my 2001 infiniti i30 as well as my current 01 Max. They started ar a cut out and then stopped workin all together I want to say it was bad wiring.. but the bose system as u kno is a P.I.T.A to fix so I did aftermarket.
But my advice is check all the fuses and attempt to check the wiring but if all else fails just replace it with an aftermarket system for even better bass quality.

Aging Bose systems just need to be replaced. since technology has advanced, its cheaper to replace the system with aftermarket for as good or better sound. If you want a replacement, I've got an 8" kicker sub with custom enclosure (mounted underneath) I'd sell. You would just need a small amp.
Only reason I removed it was because i bought a non-Bose Maxima and the 8" ended up not being enough bass for me. My '89 Max had two comp 12's and two comp 6x9's (subwoofer class)......so I got a 12" in a ported box for the trunk.
