stereo line level outs

i've got them running into an amp that powers a single subwoofer. at high volumes, when music takes a big jump, the sound cuts out completely, from all speakers. i have to turn off the stereo then back on again to get it to continue. this only happens with my cd player and only with my MTX amp. any ideas? would get a line level to rca converter help this problem???

Sounds like your tripping an overload circuit someplace.

If you disconnect the sub does it still do it? It helps to disconnect one thing at a time to troubleshoot the problem. Would the stereo still do it without the sub? How is the MTX amp being powered, do you have a 8 gauge or less cable going directly to the battery?

i've got an 8 guage power cable directly connected to the battery with an in-line fuse. the amp is rated at 200 rms.
i actually had an xplod amp in there which i switched out with the mtx. no problems at all with the xplod, but i wasn't happy with the power level. only when i swapped out the xplod with the mtx did this start to happen.

and yeah, i did try to disconnect each part individually to isolate the cause. the sub didn't do it. then i disconnected the power lead and it wasn't it either. also, if it was the amp, wouldn't high volumes with the radio on cause the same thing? it's wierd cuz this only happens when the cd is on at high volume.

njmaxseltd, which overload circuits are there that i could test. and would getting that in-line to rca converter solve this issue? audioman? any ideas?
