Maf sensor

Need a maf sensor. These things are big money. Anyone know where to get one for cheap. Should I go oem or after market is fine?

I'm sure others will chime in and tell you to SEARCH, there are countless MAF threads around.

Any 5th gen = green dot MAF from the stealership. Cost is $100 at any decent dealership. Or you can buy one online and save $10-20. That MAF is technically listed for use on a 2001, but is the same MAF as any 5th gen minus the IAC sensor from the VQ35.

Looks like you have an 02 VQ35 = get the green dot MAF, it will need slight modification to work on the VQ35 (because it incorporates the IACV in the MAF, whereas the VQ30 has the IACV separate). You have to solder in the IAC sensor from your old MAF into the new one and be done. Buying any other MAF for any 5th gen is a huge waste of money ($300-500) and makes no difference whatsoever. I do NOT advise you to get any aftermarket MAF, you will regret it down the road, you have to go OEM for the MAF.

I have a used OEM MAF with the AM600 part number (which is the updated part number and was used in all 2003 models, the older part number which came in the 2002 models were known to have issues.) Let me know if you are interested.

Since he has the 3.5L engine, he has the more expensive MAF sensor. I don't believe he can use the one for the 5th Gen.

Did you not read his post. He specifically states the differences in the 5 and 5.5 gen sensors and how a 5 gen sensor can be modified to work in the 5.5.

Here's a not too expensive substitute to save you from the hassle of buying and fixing the IAC sensor on the admittedly cheaper 2k1 maf:
22680-6N21A. It already has the IAC sensor on it.

You DO NOT have to buy a thermistor OR souder it into the 5th gen unit. You can do those things, but is OVERKILL.

This is as simple as buying a new 5th gen MAF. Then gently remove the thermistor from your 5.5gen unit. Place old thermistor into slots on 5gen unit and gently squeeze the metal prongs....gently. DONE.

You can get a great deal on the 5th gen MAF through www.nissanpartasap.com and CALL them. Great guys to deal with. Tell them you're from the forums.

Lapdog12, thanks for your links to the IAT/thermistor, getting the part now. I've also read that some org'ers were thinking the IAT might be the culprit, in addition to the sensor and/or both. And for only $1.50/each + $0.46/USPS 1st class to your door for a brand new IAT from Honeywell...not even a question for me.

I went with a different vendor, digikey, because of the options on shipping. You can select what i did or USPS 2-3 day priority ~$5-6. You can select other shipping options with other companies, too.
