5.5 Gen fed or cali spec

Okay so just when I'm feeling confident about knowing what i do about my car this comes up.
How the hell can I tell if my 2002 Maxima is a fed or cali emissions car? The sticker on the hood says both fed and cali, the code on the firewall indicates federal, I've got 4 o2 plugs on the front of the engine indicating cali, Wtf... I just wanna buy a y_pipe

I've checked around on the forums and there's a lot of confusing stuff regarding it.

OK thanks, so that means I don't have a choice of cali or fed pipes...specifically the warpspeed

No choice - correct.

Warpspeed doesn't even offer a Fed spec for 2002 anyhow

Besides, headers are best for the 5.5 gen anyhow.

Going to start with y pipe first. Headers are a bit out of my price range at the moment.

Please get headers, even OBX V2's are closest to y-pipe price. y-pipes are a waste of funds on a 5.5 gen. If anything, gut your cats while you save for headers.

You've been here long enough to know this

If I do headers then I have to do o2 Sims correct???? Seeing as headers won't have the cats on em.

That's debatable. Come'on, you know this.

Anti foulers have worked with some, because I'd rather not mess with sims.
Just bunging the secondaries inline has worked for others. My secondaries haven't throw any cat codes in nearly a decade and 90k+ mikes.

YOu should see it under the hood where the emission label is, it will say if it a Cali emission or a Fed Emission. Not sure about some of you guys says anything after 2001 is all Cali, I know there are cars out there that are in late 2000's even 2012 have a Fed emission label on it.

yeah, think about it for a minute. After 2001, fed emissions and cali emissions ARE THE SAME. Therefore, though it says FED it's STILL CALI. And OP said the emission sticker said fed and cali.

California has stricter emissions standards than what is mandated by the Federal government. Back in the older days, if you wanted to buy a new car in California, it had to have special 'California' emissions on it to pass their stricter emissions laws.

Look up HP gains on the 5.5 with a y-pipe, then headers. You'll change your mind. Y-pipe is a must for 5th gens, but worthless for the 5.5 imho.
