[2001] Transmission Issues

Hey, this is my first post on here. I have a 2001 Maxima that has around 150,000 miles on it. The car has been good to me except for the other day when the transmission started acting up. After I got off the interstate, I noticed that my tranny wasn't shifting up. My RPM's would increase but would never get into 3rd gear. Luckily I was almost home and was able to coast. The next day, the car was fine, no issues at all or even since then. I pulled the codes and it had a 0430 and an 0720. I researched some on the 0720 and saw that it had to do with a speed sensor that relates to the transmission. I'm just curious if anybody has some advice before I go to a transmission shop and break the bank. Thanks.

Had this code too. easiest fix ever. get genuine part off ebay about $100, raise drivers side front tire. remove tire, remove plastic cover behind tire. locate part on right hand side of transmission facing removed tire. remove connector. remove part 10mm bolt. replace part. replace connector put cover back put tire back lower car. check wheel lugs. done. 30 minute job. no more slipping and no code p720.

If you take it to a shop your probably talking at least 1 to 2 hr labor and $160-$200 for the part.

I recently had the same problem with my 2001 maxima se and replaced the vehicle speed sensor as you stated. It was fine for a little while then went back to not shifting properly, no cels came up. Any more suggestions as what else could be the problem.
