A good deal for 2002 max? or is this a trick?
A good deal for 2002 max? or is this a trick?
I was just quoted a new 2002 Max. The ad said brand new GXE for 21989.00 which is below invoice. I called and asked if that is a dealer demo and he said no, it is 0 mile. I asked what color they have and he said Beige (he meant Sunlit sand I think). I said I wanted Sterling Mist and he told me he has in stock a brand new SE sterling mist he will sell for 21989.00 + 500.00. I said I would
be interested if he can sell me 22500 for that SE if it is close to 0 miles, and if there is no other fees except tag and title and he throws in the floor mats. He said I have a deal and just go down there.
I ask what is the catch since it is below invoice, he said he is going into the holdback and they need to move cars.
Is this a deal? What should I watch out for?

There is a $1,000 factory rebate until end of January, I assume they are blending it into the price...That's where they are making it up (don't feel bad for the dealer).
Or are you getting the $1k back in addition to the price quoted -- that would be a deal!

No I am not getting the 1K rebate back. Still the invoice for the SE is $23411 and with 1K rebate it becomes $22411 and he throws in the floor mats so it is really selling right at invoice.
Do you think there is room yet to negotiate further down?
Thanks,
Sum

I don't think there is any "catch" if he is offering a below-invoice price (I received the same thing). Actually, from what I hear, they are often selling below-invoice here in the Boston area.

Dealers advertise that way to draw customers in there showroom. Then they get the salesman to work them over and buy cars. It's called marketing. Sure they sell one car each week or month or whatever below invoice but they also sell 5 - 10 cars above invoice.
I really think you just need to go check it out. I hunted dealer to dearler for months when buying my Max last year, I finally had a price quote over the phone from the 13th dealer I spoke with that sounded perfect. Nissan seems to have an excessive amount of rebates throughout the year, and I am sure with the curent market conditions, rebates, both visible to us and not, are everywhere. The final price I payed on my AE Max was $186 below invoice, so Orange go check it out, you might just snag a sweet SE for short money. Good Luck
