Vins don't match

So, today i went to my local dealer(Toms River, NJ) because i recently replced my MAF. The bulletin said to get the ECU reprogrammed. I bring the car in and 45 mins later they tell me they cant do the re-flash because the vin in the ECU doesn't match the vin of the car. They said if it is running fine it might not need it. You might have a different ECU or performance ECU installed. The only way to fix that little "problem" would be to buy a new ECU and have us program it correctly. Now the car does run fine but is this mismatched vin thing anything i should worry about? I bought the car like that and the guy made mention of any ecu replacement that he knew of.

If it runs fine, I would just leave it alone. The original ECU could have shorted out and the guy swapped one out from a junkyard.

you dont need to reprogram your car for a new MAF. Just do an ECU reset and follow the relearn procedures.

Also, there is no reason they cant do an ECU reprogram on a car that has a not matching ECU. They are FOS

Leave it alone if the car runs fine. I put new ECU in my 00 I30 because the old one was having issues. The dealer programmed the new one and the car ran great again.

I wonder why they would give me the "vins don't match" bs then, if certain one will do it anyway. I even put my OEM air box in just in case they wanted to complain about that too lol

You have nothing to worry about. What probably happened is that the ECU fried (it does happen) and the previous owner swapped in another. No biggie.
