2000 Maxima Fuel smell, and more..
My brother in laws 00 Maxima has a fuel smell usually after driving when you get out of the car, sometimes you can smell it in the car also. Checked the tank couldn't see any type of leak at the filler neck or at any of the rubber hoses coming out of the tank. also checked injecters, couldn't see any leaks under car either.. kind of at a loss. Also looking around his engine i noticed one rubber hose not connected at anything and i can't figure where it goes so i'll add a pic and tell me what you guys think. Thank you.

That hose is a breather hose for the automatic transmission. It is not supposed to connect to anything. But the plastic clip should be around a larger hose for support.
The gas smell is tougher to answer. Under the rear seat cushion is an access plate to the gas tank sending unit. The o-ring sealing the sending unit could be leaking, but usually this causes a strong smell in the car. The tank filler tube between the fender opening and the tank could have a small pin hole from road debris or it could be rusting out if you live in the snow belt. There are a few rubber hoses both by the tank and under the hood that could be getting hard and brittle and leaking.
You need to try to isolate the smell to a section of the car. Also, it the smell stronger with a full tank of gas or doesn't it matter? Lots of possibilities.
