Problem Starting
Hey Guys/Girls,
I am currently having a problem with my 2001 maxima starting. I have replaced the battery, the alternator, the starter, and about 8 months ago I had to go through the process of getting the clutch and flywheel changed. Well when I got the this done the mechanic bent the flywheel and proceeded to put it back in. This fired the sensor and shorted my ecu. Now to the problem at hand. I has done this before but I figured it was just bad gas, but now I'm not so sure. I have figured it out that if i run it through first or second and repeatedly step on the clutch pedal it will start...any ideas to the problem i could be facing? All ideas are welcome and thank you for your time.

I am assuming that your problem is that the engine does not crank. Shifting the trans and stepping on the clutch makes me think that maybe the park/neutral switch in the trans may be having a problem. Either the switch itself or the wire harness is damaged.

Yes, having the car to actually start is my phone. I went out to crank the car this morning and nothing. I get a click when I turn the key. Yesterday I could run through first and second gear when trying to start the car and it would work. I did notice and that the car was beginning to get harder to start. I thinking it might be the battery, or the starter. I'm testing both today.

A click from under the hood is the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter motor either isn't getting enough power from battery to spin or the starter itself is bad. Getting them tested is probably going to show you the problem child.
