2001 SE Rearview Mirror

My 2001 SE has the comfort and convenience package, which includes the auto-dimming rearview mirror.

I'd much rather have the old manual mirror and have made some inquiries. The parts person at the dealership I purchased the car told me it was about $55., a mail order place quoted about $50.

This week I spoke with the service manager and he told me there isn't a manual rearview mirror for the 2001 Maxima.

Two questions:
1. Is there a manual rearview mirror available for the 2001 Maxima?
2. Am I nuts for even thinking of doing this?

Thanks for any input.

I am just curious why you would change it? If that's what you want, then do it.

Also what are you going to do with the wires that will be coming out of the headliner?

I very rarely use the auto dim function...I think when it is working, it is too difficult to see out of the rear. However, when someone is riding my bumper (especially SUVs), it does a great job of making things bearable on the eyes until I drop it into 3rd and toast them!

My wish is that the default would be off, and then I could turn it on when I wanted it. I hate turning it off every time I start my car. Does anyone know if you can change the default setting?
