Had to buy it, price was right!

So last week I picked up another 5th gen Maxima. It was to good of a deal to pass up. I am not sure what I am going to do with it. I might end up flipping it in the spring.

2002, Auto, Charcoal with light grey interior, 280,000km - seller thought he had a really bad oil leak, turned out to be a power steering leak (1 min fix) plus I had to flush the engine oil he put in the ps.... because he was leaking bad, the ps/oil fluid was leaking on the front right wheel and thought he had a wheel bearing noise - nope just fluid on wheel. The car needs a little work, but with a few hundred bucks it should be good to go! (rear brake caliper and rear shocks) My luck I just happen to have a set of decent 5.5 gen rear shocks in my garage.

All for $500 - dude was asking 1500 but with all the "problems" I offered him $500

Interior was a mess and will need a detail along with the engine bay after I fix up the leaks. Have it in the shop, no leaks from the head gasket and all that's left is to do a leak down test on all cylinders.

Here are a few pics!

Yup I am pretty happy with the purchase. I have also considered doing a full rebuild on the engine. I have never done it myself before. I have done tons of engine swaps and I have assisted on a few re builds, but I have always wanted to do one on my own. I know they are not the easiest engines to pull, but since its basically a "spare" I might do it for the hell of it.

For now, it might turn into the "winter" car.

Wicked good deal! I would fix the problems that the car has, and just keep it.

500$......do people not know the concept of a 40$ mechanic trip to get the problem checked out?

Good buy though, his loss.

If you have space where to keep it all year around it could be used as a winter car. Than the other car will never see any salt. I like winter but not what it does to my car.

Yea I am thinking that I might drive it this winter and "save" my car for one winter, although winters are not that bad here, and its been exposed to 11 other winters. I have a 3 car garage so I can store my nicer 5.5 in there. But then I have to drive autotragic all winter.... I guess if the E brake works good there is no harm... lol

I agree with the autotragic statement. That's the only negative with the car.

Yes they are 00 wheels very observant, but as you can see by my signature, I own 3 5th gens and if you have seen my various pics, I have 5 or 6 sets of wheels. The car came with the reg 5.5 wheels but one wheel was flat and needs replacement so it was easier to swap on the 00 wheels.

People aren't hating auto, they are just preferring manual. Manual is by far the more fun way to drive. Its not to say you cant have fun driving auto's especially these days with the nice flappy paddle cars but shift fast are fun. I blasted a 335i BMW not that long ago and it was a hella fun drive. I still would have preferred a manual, but I still have a really good time. Plus those cars are hella fast.

Good deal. I have the bad habit of browsing cars that I like (such as Maximas) and then go buy a car that I do not need, but it is too good of a deal to pass up. I feel good that I am not the only one that does that. Nice car.

I am a bit of a craigslist hooor. This was a steal. I have been driving it everyday to work, and it drive fine. Still needs a few things. Cleared the codes for Check Engine when I got it and no codes have returned

Its slow at the shop this week so I'll get the rest of the small stuff fixed this week.

I have a click/knock sound right when I take off coming from the passenger side in the back that is starting to drive me a little nuts. So I am going to start ripping things apart.

That is an a great deal even with the very high miles. Any updates on how it's running and how the fixes have been going?

I have been daily driving it most days... I am still waiting for some shop time to fix the few leaks, but besides to chain rattle at start up when its cold, its pretty flawless...

Leaking coolant from the gasket of the feed pipe between the heads, and its leaking oil from the cam sensor.

I am pretty sure I will end up selling it because I will make a pretty good profit... and I want another project car... Trying to get my hands on an e30 BMW or maybe E36... maybe 240sx and drop in an SR20DET... who knows... we will see what available when I sell the maxi.

Oh and the knock ended up being the jack...
