Need replacement key and remote fob for 2002

Which forum should I be searching for this info? I just got a 2002 SE, but it came with only one ignition key, and no fob. Seems like a disaster wating to happen, so I need to figure out how best to get a spare key, and a couple of fobs that'll work.

Without having a fob to duplicate, I think your only option may to hit up a dealership. Hopefully another member can chime in with better advice.

I would search all throughout the car to see if an extra key/fob set appears.

You can get keyfobs on line from all different places. You can get the Nissan made keyfob or non-Nissan keyfobs. Non-nissan are less expensive but won't last as many years as a Nissan one will. E-bay may be the cheapest and maybe have used ones that are even cheaper. When you are buying a keyfob from anywhere, make sure it has a FCC ID of KBRASTU15 otherwise it won't work on your car.

You can also buy blank keys on line. You can then get a hardware store to cut it. However, a new key needs to be programmed to your car, as these are "chipped" keys.
Most independent lock smiths can do that. They will also be happy to sell and cut the new key. The dealer can do this too, but at a higher price. If you have several locksmiths in town, call for quotes. They all charge differently.

I bought a new key fob on eBay when my car didn't come with one and it worked perfectly. There's a procedure that came with mine to mate a new fob to your car. It's real easy and was like $20 shipped.

Thanks all. I'll pick up a couple of fobs on ebay. A locksmith near my office has the right kind of Nissan key, and can "clone" it from the one I have. She made me an Altima key that worked fine previously. It's $95 though. Ouch. I haven't contacted a Nissan dealer yet, but I suspect that'll be more expensive - I'll try it.

Liking this car so far - seems like it has a lot of life left in it for an '02. One owner, no accidents, 106.5k miles, but could use a really good scrub down inside. It's pretty clean, no rips or tears, but there's that layer of grime in the corners and cracks that needs to be detailed out. So my teenager can apply a new layer no doubt.

Yikes! $115 for the key, and $75 to program it at Nissan dealer. Pass. $95 at the locksmith looks like the way forward
