OEM Block Heater Q

Hi gents, for those living in the East coast and mid-west, do you guys know whether our VQ35 factory-installed block heater is the type that just fits into the block, or contacts the coolant?

Thinking about using mine for the first time in 11 years, but if it's the type that contacts the coolant, I don't want to see a big coolant leak in the morning! For those who uses theirs, you find it effective in easing the strain of cold starts?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure they all sit in the coolant. It's a tiny oven element that sits in a frost plug. I had one on the first engine and I used it on the super cold nights. For some reason when nissan swapped my engine I didn't get the block heater back.

Thanks gents, hope you guys are doing well. You think it's safe to plug mine in after not doing so for 11 years, lol?

We're getting more snow in a few days, it's insanity. White Christmas for sure.

It's been nuts eh Will? non stop! I am frustrated I haven't actually got the G or the Maxima properly put away yet, the winter came early and really messed me up here.

I'm not sure why you are worried about plugging it in? can you elaborate? I have a heater on the G and Maxima I was going to try plugging in but I'm sure neither has been used before so LMK if there is something I should watch for.

Hey Tuner, sorry I forgot to reply! Did you end up using your G's block heater?

I'm worried a decade on non-use might cause a leak or a short if all of a sudden, the block heater gets a jolt of electricity and decides to act funny.
