Ideas? New here

Just made a username. I have a 2001 Maxima SE. Just wondering what good light/cheap mods would be a good choice? $200 a piece or less? aside from the obvious like CAI, headers, exhaust, etc. Maybe something to beef up the transmission? I also would like to drop the car down maybe an inch and a half if anyone knows of good lowering springs.

Are you doing the work by yourself!?

Headers will be ~$2,000++++

Transgo RE4F04B-HD2 kit is a idea for a automatic tranny but it might be a good idea to get beefed up mounts from Knight (member here) and/or the energy suspension mounts.

Transmission cooler like a B&M 70268!

Lowering springs - check this site http://www.shiftice.com/
and http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...thread-22.html

I've read up on the transgo hd2 a little. seen mostly good things if installed correctly. I'm up in the air on whether or not to go the header route, as I may end up supercharging the car down the road for maybe a 100hp gain or so. Might end up just doing a high flow cat and cat back exhaust. and I will probably have some help, won't be doing it %100 on my own, though a shop will not be doing it.

Have you considered just picking up a better platform to start on?

yea... I'd rather stick to what I got. I like having something that doesn't seem like it would or could be fast. but is quick.

Dont listen to anything geroge__ says.

As far as to answer your questions I suggest coli overs over springs, much more adjustments to really dial in your suspension then just springs will give you. Save the money and you wont regret it. If your a auto then a transgo isnt a bad idea, if its done right. Manual there is so much more that can be done. Post up pics so we can see what kinda color/condition we are dealing with here.

Again george__ is no one to take advice from as he is a troll of the fourms here

I thought that no one makes a supercharger for the 5.5 gen Maxima. If you want FI, you have to turbo it. Some people here have done it.

tosh is correct in saying there is no SC for 5.5. But as the user is a 5th DEK then there is.

I recommend BC myself. Thats what I use and dont have any issue or will to change

to not listening to_george

Transgo shift kit is good (speaking from experience, but it must be done right like others said or you may have problems). I would also choose coilovers over springs (Teins are good IMO).

You do have the option of SC. Headers on the DEK could be a P.I.T.A and I've heard of some serious fitment issues (I never did it for that reason).

Best things you can do is a Ypipe. Maybe gut your cats instead of headers, get a hi-flow cat (Cattman fastcat), do a cat-back exhaust (2.5" works well). Then do intake (do not buy injen CAI, there are good intake threads on the forum), and NWP thermal intake spacer is a great product.

Other options include intake tuning (big bore MAF, bigger throttle body), but then you need air/fuel tuner. Oh you can also advance timing 2 degrees BTDC. And there is also Emanage Ultimate which which you may want if you get a SC. Most other options include messing w/ internals like cams and such.

Welcome to the forum, hope that's not too much for ya all at once, but since I have a DEK thought I'd share my experiences.

this is the look I'm going for. I really would like the polished gunmetal rpf1s, though I am having some trouble finding them.

You can always paint the rims if you can't find them in that color.

PAY UP! And then get them powder coated and buy some good summer only tires.
