OBX Headers & CAT Back System

I resently installed the complete OBX set mius the rear CAT Delete Test Pipe. I have an empty rear CAT now. I'm thinking that the Cabin noise would go down if I replace the empty CAT with either the OBX CAT Delete
or a MagnaFlow Direct Fit CAT. Oh and I already installed Dynomat in the cabin. If I go with the MagnaFlow CAT it might look better on emissions day too! Has anyone have any thoughts on this?

a high flow cat will quiet it down a bit but not as much as a big resonator that Im assuming is missing

The OBX CAT Back came with the large resonator included. I had the CAT Back first then resently installed the Headers and empted the CAT because the insides were falling apart. I believe that the Tinney sound is from the empty rear CAT.

No that tinny sound is from your entire OBX header and catback system especially if you have under 1000 miles on it!

Sounds like I need to break them in. Would a rear Cat or test pipe change the sound much? It's kind load driving around in cabin. It sounds better at highway speeds.

Hmm I posted a similar question about a month ago. Basically the answer was you could add sound dampening material inside your trunk and car to reduce cabin noise and add a bigger resonator to quiet the car down

I installed Dynomat on the floor boards and trunk when I installed the OBX Cat back and it came with a resonator. Then sound was good inside. Once I added the OBX Headers and empty cat it got way loader. Guess I need to just turn the music up!

Get a massive resonator like the one some of us are using. (6" diameter x 30" long).

Did you check for any leaks? Sometimes air leaks can cause massive loud car

None available as bolt on unless you send it to Chris Gregg for some fab work.

I found a MBRP Resonator that sounded good. Has a 3 yr warranty and $85. But Magnaflow Might have the better sound.. I'm going to the local hot rod shop that sells Magnaflow. Hope they like Rice Burners!

The secret is a 18" x 6" resonator and a large rear muffler....Cattman's is 19" x 5.5" x 9.5" IIRC....What's OBX's muffler/resonator dimensions roughly?

My Rear Cat is empty too! I was looking at the direct fit Magnaflow Rear Cat but it's $275! I rather just get the long resonator and leave the Cat alone, but I think the empty cat is part of the problem.

I would like some pictures of this OBX but I found it!

Invest into a larger resonator first even the 4" round Magnaflow are awesome and I've equipped 4 cars with them and the sound quality was improved! Good Luck pm me if you need so ideas!

Ive used the magnaflow resonators. I bought the longest one I could in a 4 inch case. Welded it in place of the old resonator, it really helped especially with drone. This is the one I bought I think http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-10436/overview/

Yes, that's it! some have used the 30" x 4" round but you can't do that without removing both frame stiffeners and and exhaust catch bracket!
Another remedy would be to install a 5" x 8" x 22" Magnaflow!

Thanks for all the great info! Can't wait until I get this sounding better! Can't believe how much these cars run with headers. Should have done this sooner!

You really dont need a "tune" with just an exhaust system upgrade,it when you start fooling with the air/fuel system ie: intake, injectors, throttle body, manifold spacers.

So once again please dont take advise from the above^^!!!!

If the OP has headers and aftermarket exhaust then tuning is a good idea!

@OP - don't listen to The_Fixer

George wtf do you need to tune for a exhaust upgrade.its a exhaust the only thing you need to worry about is getting 02 sensors relocated or sims installed the exhaust dont effect your A/F or timing unless theres no 02's in the system to tell if your running rich/lean ffs learn something!!!

..but The_Fixer is right george_.

I've said it before: Cars are not your thing.
I think I speak for everyone when I say stick to asking questions and stop trying to give advise.

Your only advise is what you've heard from us here, some of it could be wrong depending on who was having a bad day.

So stop commenting like you know when you just kinda learned from someone else the day before.

Leave the answers up to the more experienced members FFS.

Dude get a damn bicycle a single speed one at that because you don't even need gears anyway sense you drive a automatic around in 3 all the time!

Not all the time. City driving + good weather it occasionally gets driven in 3.
