Headlight Protective Film

My '03 Maxima has some faded looking headlights that are really detracting from its overall looks. I remember using a headlight restoration kit by Crystal View on a previous car and it worked excellent but it came back after awhile. What I'd like to do, is use that same kit and then put a protective film over the headlight to prevent it from coming back. As a bonus, I'd like a light amount of smoke on the headlight lenses, something like this:

So my question, does anyone make pre-cut flim that can be applied to the headlights? Or am I going to have to buy a sheet and cut it to fit? I'd really like a light smoking, not too dark. Also, do you guys think this would work or would I just be wasting my time with the kit and the film? I was hoping that isolating the surface from exposure would prevent the hazing effect from returning. I just don't want to have to run out and buy new headlights.

Any other ideas?

There is a coat used at the factory to prevent oxidation but over
time like everything, it fades and dies.

You can use clear coat or there are products like 3m makes or wolfgang uv sealant.
I just use rubbing compound every acouple washes.
But the sealant is cheap, worth a try over a film that won't work for what u want.

I pull out my headlights and clean them twice a year. I use toothpaste and rainx window wax.

Try plasti dip. I tried it on my tails and it worked beautifully. If you dont get the smoke just get a can of black and do a light and most importantly even coat. Itll still come off and id like to think it'd offer protection.. I mean hey its $6 a can so id say its worth a try.

This stuff is excellent ... http://www.lamin-x.com/Automotive-Products-s/47.htm

I used it to do a set of fog lights on one of my other vehicles.

Very nice stuff.

This is prolly the best way to go. I got roll of yellow film on eBay for three dollars for my fogs. That roll was 15 inches by eight feet, more than enough. The seller had different colors including the clear one.

I don't want my headlights too dark, so I definitely don't want the blacked out, but I'm not sure if I like the light tint of smoked or the gunsmoke which is darker and more noticeable. I just saw a blue coating that looks kind of nice too, any pictures of a silver Max with blue coated headlights?
