Will be installing the 6 ignition coils I purchased on Amazon for $100.00. I know its a risk but I only drive the car on the weekends because I have a company van. Car is 11 years old and spending $80.00 x6 for OEM coils just wasn't in the cards. Car only has 90,000 miles and has been trouble free and the coils on Amazon got great reviews. Will be replacing spark plugs too. Will report back with result

Oh yeah valve covers and gasket too. Never got around to install those. The rear one is cracked and leaking in #5 spark plug.

did you get a plenum gasket??

Cross your fingers... aftermarket coils suck... I am not saying they don't work, its they are always the first thing to mess thing up. Were you getting misfires??? Why are you replacing the OEM coils???

Personally I would run 90K OEM coils over brand new aftermarket coils... G/L

I would have just done the valve covers and cleaned the #5 coil assembly....

Mainly because your pulling a p1320 and p0305 right?

Putting those ebay coils in your motor will most likely result in further headaches for your weekend cruiser.

Also, if you want to sell those OEM coil assemblies I'll give you $100 for them

No I am getting P0300 so there is more than 1 bad coil. I replaced the #5 coil a few years ago but not the covers and of course its soaked with oil. I was getting the p0305 that's why I replaced just that one. Once I pull the OEM coils you can have them for free. Just PM me and I can ship them to you also free of charge. Have access to FedEx free of charge. All the reviews on Amazon were from Maxima and Murano owners and they all said no problems at all. If I can get 2 years or more that's all I ask....Don't plan on keeping car any longer than that...

No name or where they are made. If they don't work out oh well. I can always admit defeat and purchase OEM. If they work then great. When I was going to have a local shop do it awhile back, I asked them where they planned on getting the coils from. They told me autozone or there normal supplier. My check engine light comes and goes, but never stays on more than a day and really only when its cold outside. On warm days I don't usually get misfires.

Cant argue with that.

I have tried the ones from Autozone etc and didnt have a positive experience to say the least. Never been brave enough to give the ebay ones a try.

I usually just get two at a time from Nissan. I change the offending coil and the cylinder adjacent to the cylinder that is mis-firing. I like the grey dot coils. Im turning into the old guy that waits for the SES light so I can turn wrenches lol.

My buddy got one from Napa at one point & it was actually a Nissan part. Box and all. He did pay like $130 for it though.

Good luck either way.

PM'd info.

You can get valve cover gaskets from just about anywhere, but amazingly the dealer has the cheapest price most of the time.

the 02-03 maxima valve covers will fit, but they will be considerably more expensive since Nissan knows they are a problem, and charges a premium for replacements. 6th gen ones (04-06) fit and are cheaper.

Amazon ignition coils, NGK spark plugs, and new valve covers installed and car is running like new again. No problem at all with the ignition coils. The factory coils said Hanshin on them and the #5 coils was soaked with oil. Let see how long these coils will last and if they do go bad, I hope its the front three.

Gonna change out my valve covers and gaskets within the next few months. Do the 6th gen fit exactly or are their some minor modifications that I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

Perfect fit. No mod required. Same cover just better seals.

I was having the same problem as OP. Misfire that would happen when car was cold and it was cold outside.. Got P0300. Bought the coils from Amazon and changed the front 3 myself along with new plugs.. Cured my misfire problem so far. I want to get the back 3 changed as well but the shop I called wanted like $280 labor to do them.

My car is an 03 with 93k miles. The plugs i took out looked a bit white but after being in there 11 1/2 years they couldn't be in that great a shape. I just got the car a little over a year ago.

That's definitely a Damn Good Brand....OEM on the 5.5th Gen are mostly Hanshin and I've had no problems with my original set that I ran up to 100,000 miles (no problems ever) and replaced them them with OEM Hanshin....Hitachi I think are for the 00-01 IIRC....I'll be hunting for those Hitachi's for my 4th Gen.

They sell Hanshin on ebay for a reasonable price. Not sure how authentic they are but I would doubt they would make knockoff ignition coils.

I have the hitachi's and like them.

got '03 with 180K. I'm having misfires sometimes with a cold startup. Got the coils (ebay :-/) Plugs and 6th gen covers and gaskets. Going to change all of them when I get a chance. Any tips needed for this job? how long does it typically take? What is the most difficult part? Just taking off IM?

First time? Allocate 3 hours

hardest part I thought was taking the intake manifold off and then the rest was easy

I used a lot of rtv black
