2k maxima tps idle relearn problem

2000 maxima gle

I have recently replaced a fried ecu and from what I have read I need too do an idle relearn. (car runs great but have to hit gas when first starting or stalls)

Found here : http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...alls-idle.html

However, when it come time to: "Disconnect throttle position sensor harness connector (brown), then reconnect it within 5 seconds." car immediately dies.

does this indicate the tps is no good?

Possibly. You may have to shell out the money for the dealer to do the idle re-learn. I ended up having to do that after I replaced my IACV because my 2K Maxima would not successfully re-learn the idle.

thx for the info. Did you try to do the relearn yourself before taking it to dealer? if so, did car stay running after unplugging the tps?

Weird cause mine just dies... so im assuming relearn didn't "take" ?

Yes.

It did remain running, but struggled.

Even though it remained running it didn't take because I had a high idle problem after changing my IACV and still had it after trying the relearn procedure several times.

Maybe the pre-conditions are not where they need to be when you try the idle re-learn? They are below...

Or...you may have a bad TPS. Download the FSM from the link below to see how to test the TPS. It would be in the "EC" emissions control section.

http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/

PRE-CONDITIONING
Before performing “Idle Air Volume Learning”, make sure that all
of the following conditions are satisfied. Learning will be
cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a
moment.
I Battery voltage: More than 12.9V (At idle)
I Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 99°C (158 - 210°F)
I PNP switch: ON(Vehicle In Neutral)
I Electric load switch: OFF
(Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
On vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, set lighting
switch to the 1st position to light only small lamps.
I Cooling fan motor: Not operating
I Steering wheel: Neutral (Straight-ahead position)
I Vehicle speed: Stopped
I Transmission: Warmed-up
For A/T models with CONSULT-II, drive vehicle until “FLUID TEMP
SE” in “DATA MONITOR” mode of “A/T” system indicates less
than 0.9V.
For A/T models without CONSULT-II and M/T models, drive vehicle
for 10 minutes.
