2001 SE shifter to anniversary shifter

I picked up an anniversary shifter (automatic) and I would like to Install it. I know how to remove the current shifter, however ive heard the anniversary shifter doesnt directly fit. I understand id have to solder the connections for overdrive, but I dont want to take apart my current shifter just to find that I cant get the AE one on. Search function doesnt work on my app and I couldn't find anythimg from a quick google that was specific about what specific modifications are necessary. Any help is appreciated!

Alright so I grew a pair and pull out the current shifter. At the end of the metal shift rod theres a plastic insert that fits into the handle the stock handle. It needs to be changed in order to put the A.E. shifter on (I have the AE plastic insert). I couldnt get the insert off, I didnt want to break it and be stuck without a shifter so I put the stock shifter back on and tape the overdrive wires away for now.

Question #1: anyone know an easy way to get the insert off?

Question #2: anyone know if the AE shifter will even work?

If I can't get a response ill go to a junkyard and try it out there first lol
