Replacing trunk torsion bars

I want to replace the trunk torsion bars with two gas strut/strings.

I've seen an old 4th gen thread with dead pictures but haven't seen a 5th gen equivalent. Anybody done this? Anyone have pictures and a model # for the gas strut/spring.

I can't take the buzzing they give off with a sub.

you can always take a section of rubber hose, cut a slit in it, and put it over the rods where they cross. That's what I did and NEVER heard them rattle with the system I had.

Thanks. I've already wrapped them but still doesnt seeem to stop all of it. I'll take a look again but thought this strut idea might be a simple fix.

If it helps, once they are wrapped with the hose, put a zip tie around the section where it crosses. I did that from day 1 when I had my car. Never had a rattle from the torsion bars.

Thanks. I'll try that and see how it goes. Certainly the easier option.

I don't see how a torsion trunk bar would set the rear sub buzzing noise. It like taking your metal rod and place near your speaker while it playing would not give feedback. It would be interesting if anyone tried to convert to gas strut, would need brackets and hinges to do that. I don't think there's a enough space to make it all work, unless someone has tried

its more because the torsion bars will vibrate against each other and make a rattle.

^this. It's an aftermarket sub in a box that rattles the torsion bars. I have them wrapped in pipe insulating foam and I took some tie wraps to them today at 4 different points to see if I can make them tight enough to stop.

Someone's done it very successfully to a 4th gen. I've just never seen anyone do it on a 5th. I'm sure it's very possible - 4 tie wraps is just a lot easier and cheaper.

Ive done it. Pushing 1000W through a JL 12W7 will cause some rattles if you want them or not. I can say for sure my torsion bars never made a noise.
