I've had a similar oil burning problem like that before. Not a maxima but on a 240sx. I was able to solve it though... By swapping engines.

Sounds like your rings have been laid to rest. Rebuild it or swap it. That's the only way to solve that.

It's like every other day on this forum another 2002-03 Maxima gets cancer, and the prognosis is grim.

How about everything in the top end? Valve cover and gaskets? And you're sure you're not leaking any?

Any reason for that? The 07-08 vs the 05?

I'm also curious about this. What differences are there?

No difference. 07-08 is the same vq35 from 04+.

Use the 09+ motor with 290hp they say

Are you in a position where you can do an oil change yourself? If so, thats what I would do. Oil change and filter. Also, how about a PCV valve? Was that changed as well? I might put a piece of cardboard underneath the car and see if you are leaking any. I'm assuming if you were leaking that much, you'd see a spot underneath, but you could throw a piece of cardboard underneath just to make sure.

Seems legit. I was under the impression the 05-08 had no oil burning issues, but had timing chain tensioner issues. That's an easy fix though, since before the engine goes in, might as well change the tenstioners.
