2.5 MT Swap?

Hello Maxima Enthusiasts

I am inheriting a 2000 GLE from a relative. It needs some work, but has great sentimental value. It has about 200k on the clock but is in pristine shape. I drive an '04 Civic 5speed. This may come off as blasphemy to you all, but I am really not worried about performance. I was thinking of swapping in a VQ35 and 6 speed manual from a 5.5 but then it hit me.

Could I swap in a QR25DE and 5 Speed from an Altima? Whatever happens this car will get a Manual. I would rather get better fuel economy than more power honestly. Is this feasible? Bad Idea. I love the car and have many memories with it, I am excited to finally be able to tinker with it.

Thanks

Frankie C

If you spend thousands, of course you can (I guess cheap if you fab). QRs are **** motors all around. I wonder if US engineers designed them
I doubt you would get much of an increase in fuel economy. They're barely rated higher than a 3/3.5.

For a QR to not be a pos you'd have to rebuild the motor with new pistons that have lower set rings and new style HG. Of course it needs a header and the balance shaft deleted. What a ****ing money waster. 07+ version is better, but who cares, still a pos QR.

Swap a 5 speed or 6 speed. You have a manual. Done!

Actually contributing to this...

If you inherited a car that has sentimental value and are keeping it, just drive it. Especially if you are keeping the 04 civic, use that as the commuter. I wish I could have kept my father's 87 SE. If I found it today in good condition, I'd buy it right now.

My suggestion is, to keep it as is. If you really want it to be a manual, a 5 speed swap would be fairly involved, but MUCH easier than swapping in a QR. The QR is a terrible motor IMO. It won't be much more efficient, and may affect your sentimental value as the car won't drive the same. Also, you would be in no mans land since no one has done the swap. Keep it running, drive it, enjoy it.
