whats that feeling while you drive...

Anyone ever driven a M5 or a high priced lux car(not me), and when you go like 130 it feels like going 60.. well when i go 100 on my max it feels like im going 150.

How do i get that lux feeling(no i am not going to buy a luxury car)

DOes it all have to do with suspension? It cant be that easy to fix.

really cuz i've driven my mom's 2001 acura rl and my maxima back to back and i can tell you that my max reaches 100 mph with no effort at all (duznt feel like im going 100), however the rl offeres quieter cabinet, smoother (yet slower ) acceleration, and softer suspension.

I don't know about everyone else here, but my Max is very good at hiding its true speed. 100 feels like 60 to me!!

I agree..when i drive 100 in my max it feels like normal cruisin speed! except down here drivin speed limit (70mph) on I-95 feels like driving on a washboard...other than that my max feels perfect at high speeds.

Might have to do more with the rigidity of the body and sound deadening. The more 'insulated' a car can make you feel might reduce the perceptions of what is going on around you.

All I know is 125 feels like 70 in my Max, and I am happy with that!

my dads s-type feels a whole lot different than my max. when im going 100+ in the s-type, it really does feel like im going 50 - the handling, the vibrations, the way the engine picks up speed, its way different. i just think its because with luxury cars, youre paying $50k+, and the max is half of that. the luxury cars have a lot more room to work with, better parts, stiffer construction, etc.

Rent a GM Cavalier for a week. Drive it like crazy, hit as many bumps you can, floor the gaz pedal, hear it scream and cry when you downshift, max the radio, feel (and hear) the wind at 40, follow a semi and try to stay behind as long as you can, drive 200 milles without stopping or leaving your seat, try to fit 5 in it, and so on, and so on.

The take your Max for a ride... Now, that's luxury....

Re: Re: whats that feeling while you drive...

I will have to say that the new 2002 SE's ride is very smooth at all speeds including 120MPH. My friend has a new Lexus SC430 convertible and I have driven that car several times and, yes, it is a little smoother but the ride is damn close. I agree that the smoothness is all in the setup in the suspension. I have driven all kinds of cars: Vipers, M3's, riden in a new M5, and the new Maxima bar-none is a very smooth riding car and probably the best you can get for the moeny. That is why I have a new one loaded with Navigation and 6spd on order.

Alot of that is just the tiniest little things wearing, so insignificant that only you notice and everone one else thinks that you're just plain nutty. I encounter the same problem....especially with alignments or tire balancings, I can feal the slightest imperfection. Now I get tire balancings done to the 1/10th oz.

The car is (Not to sound too cheesy) a part of you and somethings seem very apparent as it accumulates wear and tear, but only to you. Add some sound deadening material above the headliner and rear fenders, maybe get some new shocks or springs. That way it will seem like a new or different car and the imperfections/headtrips won;t bother you.

For what it's worth, my previous car while

in Puerto Rico ('99 BMW 540 six-speed) was indeed substantially more solid and stable at speed than the Max...early one Sunday morning my wife and I made a cross-island trip with Passport on and it took her nearly 10 minutes to realize I had the cruise control at 100.

No question there definitely is different feel behind these two cars. Much as I like it -and feel it's the right car for he s-l-o-w Oregon traffic- and tell all my ex-Bimmer friends that the Max is a the poor man's BMW, it aint a 5-series Bimmer

Go drive a muscle car (i.e. Camaro, Firebird, Moostang) then drive the Max. I used to drive a Formula, the motor let me know I was doing 130 (I miss that sound, torque, looks, etc etc etc (the max is much more "practical"). Then get into your Max and tell me what you think.

Re: Re: whats that feeling while you drive...

I don't think abyone's approached this subject yet, but is there any difference in the luxury-feel at speeds between the GXE, SE & GLE? Does the sport-tuned suspension of the SE translate to a rougher and/or noisier ride?
