Hi guys,

About to replace my rear bearings, but there's not a dealer in 100 miles with the hub dust cover or axle nut.

I'd like to get opinions (dangerous as that is) about whether to reuse the axle nut, and if so, what precautions to take. That is, LocTite or not, and if so, which formula/color, whatever.

Axle nut can be reused, I see no reason why it can't.

Just make sure you use a good cotter pin.

 

Thanks, but the '03 doesn't use a cotter pin, it's a flanged nut, if I understand the terminology.

Yes..but the axle spindle itself should still have a hole in it to avail for the use of a cotter pin. I haven't yet seen an axle without one.

 

Hmm, I'll double check, but I've pulled four of these so far and haven't seen a hole yet.
