Transmission slipping (goes into neutral while driving)
Does anyone know what would cause the car to go into neutral on its own while driving? The transmission stops working and the engine just revs. Once I let off the gas and press it again, it drives.
I just had a re-manufactured engine installed, so the transmission was indeed touched by mechanics and now its not working..
I read it can be the speed sensor.
The mechanic says I need a new transmission. $3700.
Someone please help. I havent been able to drive the car for 2 years, and now they say the transmission is bad. It never had a problem before.
I also get hard shifts when shifting from reverse to drive. (the transmission clunks and jerks the car a bit)
Thank you for your help
The fluid is new, topped off and the filter is new..

Have you checked your fluid level correctly (tranny at operating temp and shifted through all gears)? Have you looked through the FSM? The FSM may cover some of your symptoms and give you and idea of where to look first.
I had a jerk when shifting from reverse to drive and also when it shifted from 1st to 2nd. This was all after my engine replacement, but it was my TPS that was faulty. My jerk is no longer present after replacing the TPS. I'm telling you this because it may not actually be a transmission problem being these things are electronically controlled and something has to give it direction.
FYI: $3700 is ridiculous for a tranny replacement in a 5th gen. If it ends up being your tranny which doesn't sound like it, look for a low mileage one.

Once again the car goes into neutral while driving. It does feel like a sensor problem to me. Ughh. Should I replace the TPS?
anyone else have transmission issues caused by the tps?
