Help with Acceleration Problem

When I started my 2000 Maxima today the car revved up like I had the gas pedal pushed all the way down on the floor. I turned it off and restarted it and it sounded better but if I gave it much gas it revved all the way up again. One time I started it and it wouldn't do anything when I pushed the pedal. The only thing I noticed was a disconnected hose located on the left side and it was disconnected near the valve cover. I connected it and the gas pedal would work again but it still revved up. Can someone help me with this problem because I can't drive it to a shop the way it's acting. It sit in the driveway a few days without being driven but I can't figure what that would cause. Thanks.
