Replacing clutch soon ... Please I need your advice

Hi
My clutch needs to be replaced soon on my 2k2 6spd ...... I assume it's the original stock clutch that is on the car now....Pedal feel is OK to me from the stiffness point...My car is pretty much stock apart from the 17 degree timing advance(if it you count it as a mod)...Now I need a clutch kit replacement that would meet (or exeed) the OEM clutch performance (but nothing crazy and would bankrupt me).... What should I buy ?

1.I always like the OEM ... but I started to hate the OEM clutch just from some orgers opinions.

2.My mechaninc is swearing by SACHS Clutch . It would cost me around 260$ from rockauto.com....I'm afraid after I install it I would find it sucks more than its name...What do you say about this clucth ?

3.I can get Exedy OEM replacement kit (NSK1002) for around 160-170$ shipped ... Should I go with that ? it seems to be a tempting option for the brand and price.

Excuse my post....I searched and my head was about to blow with all the debate around that issue...Some say exedy and then others say ACT and suddenly someone comes and swears by the OEM and so on...
And another point please , I don't want the hassle of getting a 350z clutch than moddding it and such...I am looking for direct fitment parts without any fancy work for a daily driver on a stock 2k2...
Thanks alot

Update
If I go with maxima OEM clutch , what parts I need other than the disc , the pressure plate and the throw out bearing ?

Ill be monitoring this thread since im in the same boat with my 5 speed, need to know what brand of clutch to get...
It seems like the clutch job is fairly easy for maximas, as long as you have a transmission jack...

From what I read, the 350x clutch needs no modding as long as you buy the Maxima throwout bearing and Maxima flywheel.

i have a 5th gen i think i got my stage 1 clutch from competition clutch for around the same price as teh clutch you are paying for...i paid another $2+ for my LWFW as well from competition clutch. not upset at all w/ my purchase. if you arent planning to make much power...a stock clutch and a LWFW would be a nice purchase. i just did stage 1 off of my principle of 'when you replace you upgrade'

So you say the pedal feels fine from a stiffness perspective...so is the clutch slipping or you just feel that "it's time" to replace it?

If this is your daily driver I wouldn't do anything but a stock replacement clutch and leave the flywheel alone unless it's in bad shape and needs resurfacing/replacement, just wouldn't bother with a lightened flywheel for a daily driven street car personally.

imo there are mixed feelings for all of the different options for replacement clutches. i just recently bout my 02' and i just went with a stock replacement because of all the uncertainty of the different options.

i say just go oem if u didnt have a problem with it b4.

I would just go with a Nissan clutch from the dealer. If you had no problems then why not use what you know is good? You probably won't have a problem with just a standard aftermarket replacement but once it's in you are stuck with it so like I said, go with what you know is good.

And I can't speak for quality of sachs clutches But I have never had any issues with a exedy clutch kit. Very good quality IMO .

I sent My stock dual mass to South Bend Clutch . They used the ring gear from my stocker (they can only buy the ring gear in lots of 500) and they sent me a steel one piece flywheel .

I believe you can throw in a 350Z clutch-- HR sounds like the toughest so you can look into that. I believe it has a stronger tq capacity than the exedy stage 1 for the Maxima's.

I have an Exedy and haven't had any problems going on 2 years now and believe me when I say I am hard on my clutch (I have to clutch the sh** out of my car every day inching my way up those freeway on-ramps with the traffic metering lights) I don't have any experience with ACT but I'm sure it's fine too. If you can get an Exedy OEM shipped for $170 I'd say go with that, it's a great brand.

Yeah I hear that the 350z clutch is a good improvement over stock and still gives you that OEM reliability.

I see from your sig that you have Exedy stage1 clutch...And I mentioned 170$ for Exedy OEM "replica" clutch...So they are different...But thanks for sharing your experience with your clutch .

Yes there is a difference . As you go up in "stages" the clamping force and the torque it will be able to hold goes up .
If you don't plan to turbo or supercharger your max, IMO the exedy DE 350z clutch will be perfect . To go with a "stage " whatever or a HR 350z clutch your just going to throw money out the window for a mostly stock maxima .

I was giving props to Exedy products in general. It is not a "replica" when it says OEM it means it meets OEM standards. Yes I have the stage 1 but the Exedy OEM would be more than sufficient for your needs.

I am going to try DIY on my clutch. This will be the first one to do for myself and could use some good pointers.

The exedy clutch is slightly bigger than the 350z clutch in diameter and holds a little more torque. You will be fine with it if you are stock

Basically take your time replacing the clutch. Remember to drain your gear oil. Try using Redline 75w-90 gear oil. If you havnt replaced your gear oil recently. Might as well since your gonna be draining it out.

Also remember to tq down your clutch to spec

Actually the better option now is to Use Redline MT85 instead of Redline MT90.

Yea so I'm in the same boat as the op. Thinking bout going with exedy I've heard of it before check my sig for mods no s/c or turbo in the future but I want all tie bolt ons I can get should I just get a stage 1 or possibly 2 and I'm super hard on my clutch. Burn it, dump it all that I have 96k on factory. I would like a lightened flywheel also looking to spend 300 maybe 400 if so any good opinions on stuff

I'd make sure to get the car real high off the ground. Possibly look into getting a tranny or atv jack if I did it again. Make sure you take off all those plastic covers, they get really annoying. Also make sure you pull out both axles....ahem ahem beastwood..lul

oem flywheel exedy clutch

So I am thinking of replacing my clutch with exedy. But I was wondering if the combination of the exedy clutch dampers and the dual mass flywheel will be too springy?

Hey man I'm wondering is this combo springy? Or did you not notice a difference? I'm concerned since both exedy and oem FW have dampers.. thanks.

OE Exedy clutch (NSK1002) doesn't have springs. The DM flywheel takes care of that. Stage 1 and 2 has springs but you would want to change to a solid flywheel.
