clutch/flywheel DIY

How hard is this compared to a header install? I'm thinking a Fidanza/350z HR combo.

I'm pretty sure Fidanza is the flywheel I want. Now I just need to find a good deal on the combo. Ebay has a Exedy/Fidanza combo for $595 from Ultrarev. Sounds like a good deal. Yes?

Would the 350z HR clutch be worth the extra cost?

Just my thoughts...

That combo seems to be an OEM solid clutch with a solid flywheel. I'd be worried about how harsh the shifts are since normally the solid OEM clutch is mated with a dual mass flywheel.

Crap. You are correct. I was just going by the picture.
The part number Exedy Part# NSK1002 is definitely unsprung.

Anyone know of any good combo deals?

Thinking Bahnhof and Fidanza. Probably get a shop to install for me; seems like a great deal of work.

Thinking about doing it myself again. I have a backup ride for a while now if it happens to take more than a weekend.
Do I need a transmission jack? Any other special tools?

A couple regular jacks would be good. a set of jack stands, torque wrench, handtools, a T55 torx bit for the flywheel bolts, brake cleaner, 200 grit sandpaper to scuff the block, bell housing and flywheel.

OEM 03-05 350z CLutch disc and OEM 02-06 Maxima / 02-06 Altima Pressure Plate is more than enough clutch than 90% of members will need on this forum.

For the love of god do NOT buy a Banhof clutch. It does not hold power and the pressure plate is very soft.

And do to a Transmission drop you will need....

3 Yack stands
A yack
A piece of wood
T55 Torx
17mm Socket, (Deep and short 1/2 drives)
Some 1/2 Drive extensions
14mm Socket and or Ratcheting wrench
10mm Hex Bit (For 5mt's just use the head of a 1/2 drive to drain le oil)
Common sense for the rest.

If the OP has already done headers then you have enough tool sense to drop the tranny, I have done both a lot and I would say initially the easiest is a transmission, but after you do each a few times they're both relatively meh in terms of things to do on a Maxima.

Thank you very much!

Is there a reason not to use the complete 350Z clutch kit and Maxima throw out bearing?
Is there anything I should be aware of or do to prevent "chatter" that a few have had when they installed the Fidanza flywheel?
