Speedo problem
Speedo problem
I've tried the search feature to no avail; I have an 01 Maxima SE automatic and the speedo reads half of the actual speed. I have replaced the vss behind the left tire and still have the same problem. Is the speedo in the instrument cluster the culprit?
Probably. Does the tachometer seem to be OK?
Go to page 117 in the service manual (link below) and do the self test. Observe where the needle points.

ok since you have a auto... go on a cheap site and buy a speed sensor since yours is located on your tranny...... but aswell you have 4 abs/speed sensors on each hub... go to a shop that can test your abs and they shall tell you what sensor it is.... it's reading half the speed because one isn't reading proper.... not a hard fix at all... take off tire see to lines... 1 is brake line other smaller one is abs/speed sensor..... in screw with 10mm rachet and replace and plug the other in.... hardest part is taking off the tire
Has the transmission been changed before? When I had my transmission changed a few years ago, the mechanic forgot to swap over the harness from the old trans. Some 00-01 maximas use the ABS sensor to generate the speed instead of a speed sensor on the transmission. In my case, both the speed sensor and and abs were in conflict with each other and the gauge was not reading the right speed.
Try unplugging the speed sensor on the transmission and see what happens.
Are you sure you changed the speed sensor and not the revolution sensor..The one right near the tire is the revolution sensor. The speed sensor is more behind the transmission and has a green wheel..

I'll buy that sensor and see how that project turns out.
Why does it say 16 inch wheels? Mines are 17 inches.

Sorry for the delay guys but my speedo is now working!!! Turns out my car does not have a revolution sensor. The spot on the trans where the rev sensor would normally go was blocked off. As it turns out our master tech here at Infiniti was right after all, and that my problem with the speedo is that it gets its signal from both front anti-skid ABS sensors. So after replacing them both my speedo now works!!!
