Exhaust Question

I recently just purchased a Walker catback exhaust to replace my rusted out stock exhaust. This is how I received it (the box wasn't crushed at all). Is that flat surface on the exhaust there for a reason (for clearance or something?) or did they crush my exhaust?

The original exhaust is flattened at that spot also.
