High Beams not working in 2001 Nissan Maxima

Bit of an odd issue here. When I turn on my high beams, they look like normal lows. But when I turn on the lows, It's just really dim. Almost like its only getting half the power or something. I don't know a lot about the wiring in this car but they were working fine a few days ago. Just some bad wiring was done before I got the car so I replaced the ligt sockets. Everything seemed to be hooked up properly so I'm not sure whats causing this issue. There aren't very good wiring diagrams online or any tutorials on replacing headlight harnesses or anything like that. Someone help please. This is driving me nuts.

If you have a Canadian Maxima, you could have a DRL module problem. DRL = Daytime Running Lights. The control modules suffer from bad solder connection and do strange things.

Otherwise it sounds like you lost the ground for the headlights. When you replaced the headlamp sockets, were the connections soldered. If they were not, then you could have a splice the has become corroded.

Here is a link to the Nissan service manual, chapter EL - electrical.
Page 33 starts the US headlight section and the wiring diagram starts on page 38.
Page 45 starts the Canadian section and the wiring diagram starts on page 50.
