Long crank (start), losing fuel pressure

I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter last year.

All of a sudden my car is losing fuel pressure when off, and this causes a hard start.

I have read, fuel pressure reg, fuel pressure dampener, and I read about an o-ring on the fuel pump assembly that could be the cause.

I do not smell fuel ever.

Does anyone know an easy way to diagnose this?

Could bad grounds to the starter and rest of the car cause this? (i have bad grounds currently)

Thanks, I'm sure this is a common issue, but I read multiple things that can be wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance all

For one thing, the fuel pump is supposed to run when the key is turned to the ON position. That will re-pressurize the lines. If the car isn't started right away, the ECU will shut the pump off after a couple of seconds.

The fuel lines should stay pressurized, though. Possibly the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) is bad. You would have to put a pressure gauge between the FPR and the Injector feed tube and see what pressure you are getting. Should be about 50 psi at idle.

I doubt that bad grounds are causing this.

new fuel sender unit (with fuel regulator) and new fuel pump seal fixed the issue.
