max or quest?

Ok I've got a 03 s speed max with 160on the. Clock. Low compression on front bank cylinders time for a new motor. At my local pick and.pull I spotted two candidates a 2002 max 6 speed with 82000 miles and a 2005 quest with 122000 miles.I had a buddy car fax em to validate miles. Which wwould you pick and why.I can't do a compression check no battery keys etc. And all vehicles are drained of all fluids so can't check oil for issues. I know the quests had a major problem with timing chain tensions and guides which would have to be addressed. And the Max's had bad rings from factory and the precats dissolve. Whether they damage the motor no one has said for sure but it seems like sentras and altimas had this problem. Any info would be greatly.appreciated guys

I wouldn't get the maxima engine just cause might be a oil burner. As for the 05 Quest would look for one with lower miles. I had a 04 Maxima engine and had no timing chain issues only had 65k on it. Don't know if it comes later on down the road or what? What's the prices on them, and any other engines pop up like 06 or newer?

Why neither ? You think the max could be an oil burner at 82000 miles?I took the y like off and the precats were both perfectly intact.Ipulled the y pipe off another 02 max with 160000 and the front was non existent. The engine is 230 ddollars without ac power steering apt and starter. And 330 for everything included haven't seen anything even close to that price anywhere else

My car has low compression and I know it'll only get worse.you guys don't think something with half the miles of my car for a couple hundred is worth it?

But you risk being in the same situation again and having to redo all the work

Yeah true. A couple of the front cylinder were reading 140-150 psi and iI figured with something with. A higher baseline compression I'd hav more power plus Ilike taking on big projects

I found a new donor a 2007 maxima with 65k for 215 dollars. The bad news it had an engine fire melted valve covers and upper intake slightly. Any one know why a max would catch fire. Also should I pull the heads and clean all the cry out or just flush the whole thing with diesel?

You need a higher budget. Why would you want a blown up engine?
