Random Technology Catalytic Converter??
Random Technology Catalytic Converter??
I was looking that this from CustomMaxima, and it seemed to be a pretty good deal.. However when I mentioned it to my Nissan rep, he said it would be best off the leave the factory cat, he said that it was a highly advanced and expensive piece that the produced with the cars performance in mind, anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanx in advance..
I would have a tendency to agree with him. I think a random cat would be a great addition after a y pipe and a catback, but if you put the cat with nothing else on, dont expect over 3 hp and probably no noise increase. If its part of a complete exhaust, go for it, but if not, save up for a y pipe first then some kind of intake then a cat back if you want the noise increase.

Hopefully a good Bpipe will bring up the HP a bit. Also If Dallas at WSP can get it done in a few weeks, then We gotta buy from him, I think he quoted less than $100.

Hey, side question, what the answer to the question about whether they will or will not make a Ypipe for a 2002? I heard something about they cant cause of the headers and what not? Is this true? Just wondering since I dont own one and want to be able to outmod my car and still beat a outmodded 2k2.

But I have seen individual testing done on other cars such as a mustang where they put in the testpipe and it shot up the horsepower almost 10hp to the wheels.

Now for me to make a set of runs before the install and then a set after the install of the testpipe would end up costing me over $100 in just dyno runs. It aint worth doing the testing on things like that.

Then the 4th with the stock CAT back on. That way we can see how much HP was lost by putting the stock CAT back on. Only thing is the numbers might be either slightly inflated or off since I already have a UDP, Custom muffler, Ypipe. But still, it will show us exactly how much is gained or lost with the testpipe.

Basically dyno run with the test pipe on and one with the stock cat everything else being the same would be great! I am going to dyno stock b-pipe to aftermarket b-pipe as soon as i get my hands on one to install as well.

I am trying to get one made, but a shop here in MD told me almost $200 for a mandrel bent pipe. I think that is too much considering that WSP is getting ready to release a bpipe with resonator I believe for only $100.

That car dynoed did not even have an aftermarket y-pipe correct? This is the first result I have seen for gains of an RT cat on a Maxima. This case being a 4th gen. And the numbers are almost hillarious! 15.9ft/lbs gain to the wheels? Do you honestly believe this?

PG, yes I do believe these numbers, do you have any proof to disprove the dyno #s ?
Jgadlage, is a very reputtable member of maxima.org, so if you want to try and contest his number, by all means do so, and prove otherwise.
Those dyno #'s were from the prototype of 4th gen Maxima. In other words w/o him, we have no RT Cats.

Funny how the only gains ever shown are directly related to RT and not totally third party. Typical!
Assuming Yo believes this is there anyone else that truely believes these gains? Gimme a break!
