Random Technology Catalytic Converter??

I was looking that this from CustomMaxima, and it seemed to be a pretty good deal.. However when I mentioned it to my Nissan rep, he said it would be best off the leave the factory cat, he said that it was a highly advanced and expensive piece that the produced with the cars performance in mind, anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanx in advance..

I would have a tendency to agree with him. I think a random cat would be a great addition after a y pipe and a catback, but if you put the cat with nothing else on, dont expect over 3 hp and probably no noise increase. If its part of a complete exhaust, go for it, but if not, save up for a y pipe first then some kind of intake then a cat back if you want the noise increase.

More like a load of crap to me. The Random Cat is a good Highperformance cat. It is much better than the Stock cat, but still it only helps if you have a complete catback and a Ypipe.

Thanks for the advice.. I think I will probably wait considering they do not have any Y-Pipe available yet for the 2002 (that I know of)

WEEEEEEEEE Need a Bpipe. Dont you also need a muffler? or you planning on keeping the stock and just running the bpipe upto the muffler header clamp?

Hopefully a good Bpipe will bring up the HP a bit. Also If Dallas at WSP can get it done in a few weeks, then We gotta buy from him, I think he quoted less than $100.

I'll most likely just stick with the stock muffler.... I don't want all the noise and would rather keep the stock appearance.... maybe I'll get some tips welded on if I want

Alright alright, hard to believe Hogan has not modded out the exhaust yet. Wow....

Hey, side question, what the answer to the question about whether they will or will not make a Ypipe for a 2002? I heard something about they cant cause of the headers and what not? Is this true? Just wondering since I dont own one and want to be able to outmod my car and still beat a outmodded 2k2.

Well I have have seen no proof of a RT Cat or test pipe giving more power to a 2K+ maxima. If someone can show me proof please do? Same goes for the muffler as well. Please show proof that changing just the muffler gives more power?

Thanks!

PhatGuy, I aint flaming on you but think of it this way. A Testpipe costs like less than $50. Now for me to make a set of runs before the install and then a set after the install of the testpipe would end up costing me over $100 in just dyno runs. It aint worth doing the testing on things like that.

But I have seen individual testing done on other cars such as a mustang where they put in the testpipe and it shot up the horsepower almost 10hp to the wheels.

I'm sure it is possible on other cars but I'm still looking for factual proof for my 2k1 Nissan Maxima on test pipe and/or muffler.

I'll do it if I get a discount on the dyno runs. Like if I can get him to let me do a set of 4 runs then I will do it, cause then I will use the first 3 to get a complete dyno of everything that is on my car.

Then the 4th with the stock CAT back on. That way we can see how much HP was lost by putting the stock CAT back on. Only thing is the numbers might be either slightly inflated or off since I already have a UDP, Custom muffler, Ypipe. But still, it will show us exactly how much is gained or lost with the testpipe.

Perfect! That would be awesome! I have a y-pipe and intake as well so in this case the results of the test pipe would be fine. Basically dyno run with the test pipe on and one with the stock cat everything else being the same would be great! I am going to dyno stock b-pipe to aftermarket b-pipe as soon as i get my hands on one to install as well.

Hey Hey HEy now, which Bpipe are you getting and where? Or are you doing the testing for the one WSP is putting out? Or is this a custom one?

I am trying to get one made, but a shop here in MD told me almost $200 for a mandrel bent pipe. I think that is too much considering that WSP is getting ready to release a bpipe with resonator I believe for only $100.

Question is: Is the RT cat a 3-way like the Nissan unit is? If you area requires NOx on the emissions, you had better call Random and talk with their tech adviser.

I'm going with an aftermarket prefab b-pipe from either WSP or Cattman. Just waiting for them to release it! Also price will be an obvious issue. As long as it is a straight bolt on to my stock cat (or test pipe ) and my stock muffler I'm on it! Not sure if I'm going with or without res as of yet.

Interesting... Do you believe that a RT cat will give gain of 6.8 hp and 15.9ft-lbs of torque on an NA Maxima 4th or 5th gen?

That car dynoed did not even have an aftermarket y-pipe correct? This is the first result I have seen for gains of an RT cat on a Maxima. This case being a 4th gen. And the numbers are almost hillarious! 15.9ft/lbs gain to the wheels? Do you honestly believe this?

PG, yes I do believe these numbers, do you have any proof to disprove the dyno #s ?

Jgadlage, is a very reputtable member of maxima.org, so if you want to try and contest his number, by all means do so, and prove otherwise.

Those dyno #'s were from the prototype of 4th gen Maxima. In other words w/o him, we have no RT Cats.

-Peace
I will bet 100.00US dollars to anyone or group of people that an RT Cat does not give anywhere near those gains on a 5th gen 2k-2k1 NA Maxima with bolt ons or not! I have seen other dynos with RT cat showing no gains and the owners willing admit they feel no gains. I'm sorry anyone would feel 16ft/lbs gain in an NA maxima putting out those numbers. My question was do you honestly beleive these gains?

Funny how the only gains ever shown are directly related to RT and not totally third party. Typical!

Assuming Yo believes this is there anyone else that truely believes these gains? Gimme a break!
