No designation on trunk

Hi, I'm new here and glad to be here. I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Maxima. (Trading in my 97 Altima) I noticed that the trunk lid only says Maxima and has no designation as to what class it is. Does that mean it is a GLE? And is there one sure easy way I can tell if it is a GXE, SE, or GLE? There are no holes in the trunk lid so I don't know if it had one and someone removed it and filled in the holes or if that is just the way the GLE's come. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Mark

Is the car modified? Someone de-badged the trunk or it was in a rear end accident and the trunk was replaced?

Get the vin # & decode it

That's a good point about the accident, I'll check it out closely, Thanks. I'll also get the vin tomorrow, is there a website I can go to to decode it? No I don't think it's been modified.

1. Take it to a dealership... Might as well see some of its service history

2. Run the VIN # through internet programs

3. Decode it yourself

What color are the gauges? Spoiler?

Your right about info on this site, I already found some info that helped. Showed me how to decode the vin# which I will do tomorrow. Also showed how to tell by the the trim features, although that's not foolproof because of the ability to have different options when ordering a car. But by reading the list I think it is a GXE. But the vin will tell me for sure tomorrow. BTW black gauges and no spoiler.

most likely the GXE model, i've only seen SE & GLE models with the designation on the trunk lid
if your car has manual A/C, black gauges, cloth seats & standard audio system it is the GXE model

^^ LOL this thread makes me laugh

First of all, horrible advice_george. As much as you post on here, you of all people should know by now that only GLE/SE have a badge, GXE doesn't. That goes for both 5th and 5.5 gens.

SE is very easy to tell apart also, it has white faced gauges and completely black grill (GLE/GXE all have chrome trim around grill), those two things are easiest giveaway. Also, SE will have spoiler and fog lights, while all the other models that was optional.

GLE = chrome door handles, I think that's exclusive to GLE's?

SE = spoiler & gauges.
