Replacing your 5th Gen

As we all know, our cars are now between 12-15 years old. They won't last forever so i'm wondering what cars are you guys looking to buy to replace your 5th gen in the future and what you have already bought in previous years to replace your 5th gen if you're now using it as a beater.

I'll most likely sell mine this year. I'm currently looking at first gen TSX's and the 08-2010 Civic Si's.

Sorry if this is already a thread somewhere. I couldn't find it.

Yeah i know what you mean, I already know I'm gonna miss the maxima though
I'm looking at 04-06 TL's, 07-11 CSX Type-S or IS300's
I need something a bit more bulletproof & easier to maintain, though the IS300 is a bit expensive to maintain

My maintenance costs on my maxima have been a lot higher than i projected but i did buy it at 133k miles. i guess thats to be expected. TL's from that era are fantastic. I like them myself but i refuse to buy another 6 cylinder car at this point in my life. My maxima was hell to maintain and a lot of the work i had to deal with was on those rear cylinders(spark plugs, valve cover, ignition coils, etc.). I'm not about that life anymore lol.

I'd much rather have a 4 banger and save myself money and effort in the long run.

yeah the maxima was definitely a bit of an eye-opener with the cost of upkeep, I bought mine with 160km but so far hasn't been too too bad. I love 6 cylinder engines, but don't like the cost of maintaining especially with side-saddle 6's. The reason why I looked at TL's is because they're relatively easier to service & don't have a huge intake plennum covering the rear. 4 bangers are definitely easier to maintain & a lot of things can be done by weekend warriors but with that said 4 cylinders don't have the smoothness of a V6 which is what I love. But then again the CSX-S seems a **** ton of fun to rev out on the regs ahahah

With that george said, I definitely dig all those choices except for the 335i, those notorious HPFP failures seem like a headache.

Waste of money, but nismo 370Z....

Also, the VQ37 with I/H/E and reflash makes 340 WHP. About 400 to the crank isn't too shabby for a V6.
Not that the power band is great, but it's NA, so what do you expect.

Doubt that will ever happen now due to all politics car manufacturers face

Originally it was a G37. But, ended up replacing the Max (although, I still have it) with a 3 year old BMW 550i with the Sport Package and manual trans. I did this in October of 2010 (the BMW is a 2008), and 66,000 miles later, I'm thrilled with the BMW. No mechanical issues (knock on wood), a bit more expensive to maintain (an oil change is $125!!), but also a lot of fun to drive.

pretty sweet, always loved that BMW put manual tranny's in exec sedans especially the higher end models like your 550i. Was the car a CPO?
no euro cars for me until I finish school & pay off my debt

Im a big fan of the 3 series BMW's but that maintenance is not something i want to deal with. $125 for an oil change? They must be refilling with liquid gold lol. BMW's are definitely the ultimate driving machine but i can't do it lol. The taxes and tags are also expensive because it's a luxury brand. I'll get one when i'm much older and could care less about the price of an oil change but right now, i gotta stay in my means. Congratz on moving up though. That's a nice upgrade.

They are tough choices when coming to replacing with a new car especially 2015 is out and there are a lot of choices, however the difficult part is a lot of cars out there have CVT and Turbo 4 , I have nothing against turbo engine they are great power replacement for a smaller displacement engine, however the life of those engine usually good up to 150k miles, not exactly good on my book since I like engine that are naturally aspirated and last up to 500k like most V-6 engines especially on here where I see a lot of Maxima.org has easily gotten to that milestone. Whenever you want to get, just keep in mind do the homework i.e research before you buy. I did when I got a second car last year getting a Honda Accord EX-L V6 since I was disappointed with Nissan offering with packaging and only CVT, that's why I given up with Nissan. Maybe down the road, if something change with Nissan I might go back. I love my 01 Maxima, and I would never part with it til the engine quit or gas supply runs out, then I end up with a electric car, LOL

Yeah I don't like CVT's at all, especially the reliability of them, If I ever own another Nissan product it will probably be an Infiniti

Just wait Nissan will figure out how to make a unreliable CVT to mate to their powerful engines... CVT should last just past warranty

Yes, car was a CPO. 23,000 miles on it, 3 years old. The oil change is expensive because it requires synthetic oil, and the engine takes 9.5 quarts. However, it only requires changing every 10,000 miles or so. As far as reliability, I have had one problem with it in the four and a half years I've owned it, and that was a faulty rear window regulator. Replaced under warranty. I made sure to get all new brakes right before the factory paid maintenance expired, so good to go from that standpoint.

Still got the Maxima, nearly 167,000 miles on her now!!
